Nice to have a problem picking the front two or three. For me, Crace picks himself at the moment - he looks a very useful player. Seems to me that he and Hammatt are on the same wavelength, and I thought Lee Smith looked good sitting behind the front two. But then where is the width?

For what it's worth I thought that last season's Town line up was much stronger, I was absolutely delighted that Jim decided not to start with Velandia or Smith and also just a little pleased that he kept Hammett (who is clearly passed his best) on the whole game. Obviously it might take just be a case of your side taking time to gel, but from what I've seen I don't see a repeat of a promotion challenge this year.

With Smith sitting in the hole behind Crace. That would leave room for another wide midfielder,or the option of playing two wing-backs.

Yes.exhibit 'A'.The Abbey game we WON 2-0 in,and created loads of chances in the second half, but couldn't finish.

Exhibit 'b'.The game we LOST 0-2 in,created loads of chances in the second half, but couldn't finish

Won 2-0 due to goals from one piece of Keystone Kops defending and one set-piece. I don't recall that many missed chances in the second half.

I just think Bryans's work off the ball creates all sorts of openings for the midfielders that the other two don't. Nyman is like John Morgan: lots of pretty stuff but over-elaborates at the crucial time and doesn't actually deliver. Smithy I see as more of an 'impact' player from the bench.

I'd have Hammatt in for one of Smith or Nyman and I might put Hunt ahead of Mackey.

Anyone else apart from Tom (and Jim) agree with that?

Why bring me into this......

On what basis do you make those assumptions? The game went exactly the way it did last season (when we were challenging for the title).EFC had easily the best of the first half and went 2-0 up.Town then dominated the second half. The only difference this season, was that the chances in the second half didn't go in.We have been sh*t at home every season since we were formed AND still challenged for the title every time.

PS..Last years squad arn't exactly setting the world alight at Ilford.

It's early days but this year's squad looks significantly stronger than last year's.

I haven't seen Hughes play yet but from what I have read he is a very exciting prospect too.

I seem to remember plenty of openings for midfielders in the second half at Wabbey. In fact we produced our best spell of passing and movement so far this season, in the last 20 minutes there.

By what reason do you think Hunt deserves a start? It can't be for his tackling, strength, touch or disribution (not from what i've seen so far).It must be for a few headers he won at tillbury.Mackey on the other hand, totally changed the game aginst Hornchurch, and has impressed with his composure and passing, everytime i 've seen him play.

It's more of a gut feeling in the case of Hunt. I can't really put my finger on it other than that Black, Mackey and Velandia are a bit too similar and I don't want to play all three. That's why I said I might include him.

Wasn't the main difference late on at the Abbey John Caciedo coming on against a tired defence? I certainly would have him as an impact sub but not as a starter (yet).

Can't agree with that. The only players from last year's team who would get a look in this year would be Rudi Hall, Russell Penn & maybe Chopper. Doubt whether Matt Negus would make the current side and he'd been one of the best players in the team for some time.

As for this:

Thought Monday's was one of his best displays that I've seen, but he's never really convinced me. Even as Captain he should not be undropable - give Hughes a run-out!!!

Apart from 2 season's ago when we only lost 1 league game at home.
Why do you think that generally our home record is so pants?.

Well last season your team really took the game to us second half and actually managed to score two goals, the way you played yesterday you'd still be trying to score them now. Crace - I've seen him a few times at Hendon- I don't rate him. Hunt same as, didn't do it for us probably had his reasons but we improved once he and a couple of other big earners moved on. I thought that Al-James and Graeme Hall were a decent pairing at the back, Fitz and the other guy you played don't seem to have the same presence. Jerome John vs. Andy Hall.? No contest as far as I'm concerned Chopper is a far better keeper. And no set piece master Rudi Hall this year. It's early days of course, and if you asked me this time last season I'd have never had Corby as a side that could go up, so there's always a chance. Anyway good luck for the rest of the season, as long as you finish below the E's. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
