Ricay 1 Staines 0

A welcome win for us to send us into Mondays game in good heart.

We completely dominated the first half, unfortunately some wayward finishing again sent us in at 0-0.

Second half was more even and burst into life with 10 to go. Firstly Staines get awarded the most farcical pen of all time, Bill makes a great save from the spot, although perhaps he should have refrained from giving the ref some words of advice afterwards. Their 15 has then spanked the ball against the post and in the dying seconds Leon has poked one home from close range to give us the win.

I thought we were the better team over the 90 mins and see no reason why we cant get something at Canvey on Monday if we go into it positively.

Greetings from Southampton

It's a funny old game as somebody once said - we've had 2 games where we were the better team but didn't kill the oppo off, then in this game we were under the cosh for much of the second half but came away with the win. First half we passed and moved well, but didn't create a huge number of chances. 2nd half was end to end stuff, both keepers made some good saves. Good to get the win...

I thought this game showed the best of the defence - They were totally solid especially the 2 or 3 saving challenges in a particular period in the second half. Billy showed today what he is capable of not just the spot kick save but a couple of other outstanding saves.

The game was sort of about both keepers, as Staines one also made 3 or 4 good saves which kept his side in it. Overall a deserved win imo and one that will give some confidence to push on further. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

Yep, two disappointing attendances so far. Who are Hornchurch?

it must be bad enough seeing their old tennants with a brand spanking new ground and form on the increase, then to find the urchins top of the ryman one north, bigger crowds, better players, bigger club!!

no wonder their gates are on the fall, and just when they thought they had got rid of canvey even they are getting bigger gates it would seem!!

I think their loyal fans are defecting!!

You might be doing well AFC Hx, but how long will it be before u go bust again?

Back to the game anyway, fought the defence and Billy played superbly, the penalty save and the double clearence off the line were just as important as the goal. Bring on the money grabbing conference side on monday!
