We dont have one on the bench??

I have seen a few teams do this so they have and extra player on the bench who can change the game, but i was looking at our bench

Danny Lamb (rb)

Coiln Wall (cb)

Crow (lb)

John Stuart (lb - dm)

Jay Curran (cf)

thats 4 defensive players on the bench???? i would rather have one less defender and put glen on the bench what if ricky gets injured? last 10 mins you could get away with a player but first 10 i dont think you could.

What do you think???

Glen was at the game last night in a CIFC tracksuit standing with the fans during the second half.

He must be injured as I think it was Stuart Batch in goal for the half-time kick about.

99% of the time the sustitute keeper will not be needed, it`s a risk not to include one but obviously a risk John Batch was (is?) willing to take.

P.S. Matt i really hope you are not tempting fate with your new signature <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Today's game (Tilbury) just goes to show that you need a keeper on the bench.

There's no point having 5 outfield players, a goalkeeper is always susceptible to a tough challenge and more likely to get red carded than an outfield player.

Having said that the defender who went in today put up a good show, however with a proper keeper I think we would have got a point.

Adam Holmes did indeed do his best in the circumstances and has to be admired for "having the bottle" to go in goal following Ricky's injury. He did very well in the circumstances and it was most interesting to hear him talked through the 2nd half by Glen Johnson, standing behind the goal.

That said, there is no doubt that Canvey lost the game due to not having a sub keeper on the bench. I am not going to criticise John Batch for this as I think he is doing a top class job for the club & he obviously felt it worth the gamble previously to take the risk of not naming a sub keeper and having 5 outfield players on the bench. Following today and this defeat, I am sure John will be undoubtedly reviewing this practice for the future.
