Lato
At the game at Coles park tonight I was standing behind the goal (car park end) i nthe second half when an oriental man in a tracksuit walked towards me. I am not certain but it may have been the "great" Domino himself. As he walked behind me I had to turn to make sure he didn't slip over in an elaborate dive like way and claim a foul. Rhodes
Lato - I very much doubt it was the great man as I don't think he would bother gracing Coles Park with his presence after the way he was treated there. Incidentally how was the hallowed Coles Park turf last night as I gather they have been having a bit of trouble with it similar to yourselves at Grosvenor Vale. Lato
Better to have trouble with a ground than not have one!! But no the haringey pitch looked and played fine. Yes Bob the Manor ground is looking smart..but the pitch still needs a lot of work.
Gussy
Rhodes (don't know what i'm letting myself in for here) but i heard haringey once upon a time were going to move the short distance up the road to lee valley any truth in this?
Rhodes
Wembley Way - Yes you've raised an interesting question here, Haringey were virtually all set to move to the New River Sports Centre about 400 yards down the road but the deal went pear shaped at the eleventh hour and fell through after a lot of painstaking work had gone in. I gather the Council moved the goalposts and wouldn't give the Club any money to move from Coles Park as well as only wanting them to be 'users' at the Centre as opposed to their own Governers. It was all a big can of worms.
Gussy
Thanks Rhodes haringey is such a good catchment area for promising youngsters i think that move would of helped you, could even of been a feeder club for spurs / arsenal the like! Horace
Have they put the goalposts back yet?
Rhodes
Horace - Yes they put the posts up on the morning of the first game of the season against Chalfont St Peter, you will recall that they had to call off those two lucrative friendlies with Enfield and Enfield Town as the pitch wasn't ready yet. Wembley Way - Well you have coincidentally hit a raw nerve as I had an innovative youth development progamme for local youngsters firmly in place before the Haringey Chairman Aki 'Sugar' Achillea pulled the plug and said he didn't want kids on the premises. I also had a number of partnerships in place with local organisations, the Council, Sure Start and Safer Neighbourhoods Police as well as Spurs who were considering playing a pre season friendly at Coles Park before the Chairman said he wasn't interested. It all seems a little sinister to me as Haringey are in a huge catchment area and have the potential to be in the Conference and possibly the Football League itself similar to your Barnet's and Orient's. The Clubhouse was always deserted despite there being no pub for a mile and there was never any attempt to instal Sky tv to attract punters before games and to hang around afterwards, indeed the Manageress couldn't wait to kick everyone out after a game so she could go home. Rhodes
Paula - Yes of course we're all still bantering away about the great man and will be for a long time to come, he'll probably be snapped up fairly soon by a Conference Club or by the likes of Barnet or Orient who regularly scout locally. Missed you whilst you were away in ferret country and Gavin has apparently missed our cyber sex, what about the biggie a bit later on today then, I mean Canvey's game at AFC Sudbury, how do you think they'll get on. Rhodes
I heard they were 1-0 down early on but do we know how Hendon got on today at AFC Wimbledon and whether Takumi played in front of the 2,500 or so crowd. If so I wonder what they made of him, it wouldn't surprise me if he was approached by Wimbledon after the proceedings either back door behind the Kingsmeadow bike sheds or openly in the bar. A little birdie told me there were scouts there from Chelski. They signed him up and he'll be seen in the 1st team next weekend.
Rhodes
Paula - What did you think of all my pics of Takumi on this thread, take a look at the one above and check out his amazing balance and poise on the ball. I described him as a ballet dancer recently but I think even Nureyev would be hard pushed to do some of the things I've seen Takumi do with a football.
