But cookie we need a centre back with pace and Porter does not have pace, even though i would love to see him in a Gate shirt again as he is one of my favourite defenders that has ever featured in a Gate shirt.

I wont argue with that Alex but I was thinking more in terms of solidness in defence. Without Trotty he would do a fine job & he would not get himself into positions that leave him needing to show the pace that is required.I of course talk of correct positioning on the field.Marking a man etc & not allowing a player to have the chance of outstaying him or out manouvering him.

Imagine him & trotty playing together.There wouldnt be any need to show the pace if the two mentioned parts of the game I mention, in defence,were adhered to.We are saddled with a central defender that so often gets tapped for toe,but why is this? It dosent have to be about NOT having pace if things are covered to start with.Not only is it because he allows players the opportunity to outrun him he is often caught napping at balls over the top by pushing up to far & waiting,praying for an intrevention from an official on an offside decision..If we have that type of player already with us then a player of similar credentials but with more knowledge of how to overcome that failure of speed would be better off in our ranks I would have thought & it wouldnt cost us dear either.

Failing that I agree a younger more experienced defender with speed would in fact be the answer but without an available budget left to use Porter at an acceptable knock down price would be ideal.

The club as the basics of a good team, unfortunatly good teams rarely win championships alone, they need a good squad.

A guy standing next to me asked "why don't they freshen the team" second half "at least they(East Thurrock) now were the bench is". Unfortunately there was know one on the bench who could have done any better.

Last night we played with passion against a team of mortar bombers, lump it and run route one merchants. Not pretty but they will survive again no doubt.

Saturday hopefully Slough will play football before we are again forced to watch another long range mortar bombing if last season against Folkstone was anything to go by.

I have to force myself to say well done to the Rams, they have taken away 2 points from AFC, hopefully helping us later in the season. Thank you Ramsgate.

Our keeper didnt have a single save to make from memory so our defence wasnt that bad surely?

First half we should have buried them but their keeper had a blinder.

Second half we were only average I thought.

McKimm doesnt seem to be at the races most of the time.

Jackson was good first half but hardly touched the ball second half.

Apart from some misplaced passes Abbo was good as was Lee.

I thought Donovan was better than usual.

No sign of Manny and the bench looked decidedly lightweight.

We all have differing views as usual.

I look forward to the weekend.

how can you say bench lightweight when they have not been given a chance.

What I find baffling is Robinson not given a run either when 5-0 up or struggling at 1-1. Sugests to me that manager does not think worth having in the team or am I wrong?

just a final comment, did anyone else notice the way East Thurrocks keeper celebrated at the end of the match? He looked like he'd just won the league, not just managed a 1-1 draw with Margate. Does this mean that rival teams are seeing us as a threat this year or possibly as a big "scalp"?
