Waltham Abbey 0 Enfield Town 2

lovely stuff

A good game against a pretty well organised side. We deserved the win. We still look shaky at the back though and Abbey had a number of chances. they will be OK this season and good luck to them. All in all, a good effort and three points in the bag.

I think that my highlight of the game was when Deano took the ball to the corner flag and turned to look for the cross and a defender claimed off-side, pure class! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

Good, solid performance - and importantly I thought we did look secure at the back. Nyman had a very good game as did Crace. Thought our number 10 (not sure who it was) was quiet. But we looked good going forward and played some lovely football in and around their penalty area.

Abbey pitch was in excellent condition I thought.

I think 10 was Dave Hunt.

I agree about the pitch.

I believe Patrick is naturally a right-footed centre-back,but i could be wrong.Whatever,he looks a very good defender and i could see him pairing up very well with Tickner in the centre.

When he hit that shot high over the bar with his right foot I assumed he was left footed. Then he shot high with his left foot, so the jury's still out... But at least he's prepared to have a go with either foot, something a lot of players could learn from. Superb all-round performance from him.

So our approach play was good and, yes, we did cut through them and it was very exciting to watch. However, we failed to create as many chances as we should of. Look, I am not saying it was a poor performance. It was a good performance but I do think we let Abbewy have too many chances. Well done lads and let's keep improving.

Every time a team gets promotion they find that they cannot afford to make mistakes and they get fewer chances. Finishing as you go up the leagues gets sharper and more half chances are taken.

Waltham Abbey have to take their chances or they will be relegation material. Similarly Enfield Town need to tighten their defence.

Town seemed to take a long time to settle down, but this is probably down to the fact that the team are all getting used to playing together.

We almost look like a team in "pre-season" looking for the right selection.

Having said that, it was a bit like Saturday... gradually coming together as the match progressed.

Although Wabbey did have several chances to score, Town equally had several chances which were missed as the final pass or shot was weak.

Overall, 7 out of 10 and gradual improvement.

Keep it going.
