So why are we kicking off at 13:00 versus Southport?

According to this England kick off their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign against Andorra on the 2nd of September at 17:00. So why do we have to go through the annoyance of getting to Southport for 13:00?

Dont you know Harry , England is important , everyone must die to get to see the game. Thats why the leagues up and down this country who support grass roots footie have to bend over backwards for something that has no impact on their constant struggle for survival. Why they cant kick off at 8pm I dont know.

 

Still , ill be at Southport. A load of guys trying to play a reasonable style of football against a competative opponent or A load of guys trying not to get injured for there club games. Thats if anyone turns up. I reckon Nevilles will picj up a knock beofre then :-)

Yeah I'll take my jet pack and get home from Southport in the two hours required.

This actually does the travelling minority a disservice. Had the kick off been the normal 15.00 then we might have stayed to watch the England game. But I'm not sticking around for two hours waiting for England to start only to then get home at 1:00am.

This is actully the sort of thing that got me fed up with watching England in the first place. For anyone that is not aware I decided to support England over the summer after all, getting a little bored again now. If I can't watch the games then whats the point?

I doubt that the concern is for the 50 or so travelling fans but the slightly larger number of home fans who would struggle to get home in the 10 or so minutes between the finish of our match and the start of the Enland game.

Wouldn't playing said internationals on a Sunday solve all the problems? Or am I thinking this is a Sky thing?

Exactly why not Sunday? They play on saturday due to "tradition". They couldn't careless about tradition on sunday as Chelsea travel to Blackburn.

 

The sunday afternoon kick off is fast becomming part of the football ritual. Kids nowdays don't know life without football on a Sunday afternoon. With England kicking off on a sunday at 16:00 it would give everyone a chance to sit round in front of the fire and watch the national team. Most European leagues kick off on a sunday as their main footballing day and I think our FA take precedent over every other Football Associaion in Europe (I might be wrong) so can call the shots when it comes to arranging kick off days and times.

I'm going to try and go to both games, England are at Old Trafford, so i'm happy we are kicking off at 1... Sorry everyone else.

Thats possibly the more likely reason for the 1pm kick off, I guess - in that it may enourage a few people to go to Southport then travel on to the England game.

 

An alternative explanation may be that the England game was originally thought to be kicking off at 3pm

The FA couldnt give hoot about lower leagues.

 

Its getting more annoying that the Saturday kickoff times are now 12:45. So dont finish until 14:45 so miss last 15 mins to get to stonebridge road. Why they cant kick off at 12:15 is beyond me .

 

At least that way , people can watch a game at home and still get to games , or clubs can earn a bit more by showing games 30mins earlier in there bars or local pubs.

 

england are the biggest load of poo out there. Why shoudld we play these players. If it was me , id have got shot of the lot and gone down the leagues to players who want to play for the country and not see it as a wedge to increase there club profile(Mr Rooney)
