Football Man
Paula - Arlesey is near Hitchin, just over the Bedfordshire border. It is a nice little stadium just outside the village. I believe that the stadium is now named after the local Indian restaurant! Anyway, they were a reasonable side at our place yesterday but didn't create too many chances. Our goalkeeper had a "mad moment" which gifted them their goal. Their best player is a chap called Martyn Williams who had a few years in the Football League before injury. He's one of those players who sits in midfield and changes the direction of play and generally controls the game. If you stick a marker on him you will reduce a lot of their threat. Sharming Paula
Cheers for that Potters Bar - hopefully we'll get a better result than you did Oh well should be able to get a nice drop of ale then in the village and then stumble down to the ground. Look out Arlsey the Yellow Army are on tour. Make sure you have plenty of beer in!!
GRS67
I am sure many clubs will get a big gate when Canvey play them. As I said to you in a pm Paula, Canvey will still get decent sized crowds if they continue to do well and go for promotion. If you struggle then those fans that were used to your 'glory years' will drop off, but I expect Canvey to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season. When we were in the ESL we still had a following of approx 150 dire hard fans and they are still with us today. The fan base started to grow when we were playing in the Ryman Prem and it then continued to rise. However, now Southend (our close neighbours) are on a roll some 'fans' have jumped ship. We are like a big family at Canvey - we all know one another, drink together and many associate together outside the club. I think we could expect at least 300 at ALL home games regardless of how well we're doing. We have a coach load (56) going to Wingate and Finchley and I dare say some will make their own way there so I reckon we'll have about 70 for that game. The coach for Arsley is also nearly full. Looking at the stats for some of the other teams in our league the away support from us could be better than the home support!!
Jonno
Hi folks. Unfortunately I couldnt make it to the Buckingham V Hoddesdon game due to work commitments but I can let you all know that the game was abandoned in the 87th minute due to........... LIGHTNING!!! I didnt realise the weather was that bad yesterday but I am reliably informed that adverse weather conditions forced the ref to abandon (with just 3 minutes left on the clock I dont know why he didnt just blow for full time!!) So our season starts with a bit of contoversy. Dunno what the outcome will be. Will probably take the league an eternity to sort it out too! Maybe some of you guys have experienced this before and have an idea what might now happen? Replay the entire game? Play the last 3 mins? Award Hod the points as we were 1-0 up? Anyway, thats what happened yesterday. Hope you all had good days (mine was ruined by both the Hod result and the Spurs result ) Regards, Jonno
Lato
Blimey, that sounds serious and there isn't a lot of cover at Buckingham. I would guess given it was only 1-0 that the league will make the game be replayed, although as you said with only 3 minutes left the ref could have blown for full time. Mind you I don't think Bucks would be too keen on that.
NeutralFan
you know exactly what will happen Jonno.. re-arranged for a tuesday night in december!!
Horace
Usual precedent if only 3 minutes left to award game as it ended. Why did league say it ended on 78 minutes? That's a bit more problematic!
Jonno
.....unless of course I got my 8 and 7 the wrong way round!! As I said, I couldnt make the game so please excuse me if the times are not accurate!!!
