Great result for Tring as apparently they were down to 8 men for the last 10 minutes or so.

Otherwise a mixed bag of results for our clubs

I make it nine knocked out, 6 left in plus Biggleswade United, three involved in replays, Kingsbury and Edgware not in competition.

Well done today Lato, obvioulsy the message I left on your Noticeboard on the Website helped bring you luck and the Mick Swaysley hat trick must have been great for the Grosvenor Vale faithful.

yes thanks Rhodes..how did Kentish Town do today?

It was a good second half performance after Vale had slightly edged a goalless first half. Should be Mick Swaysiland though..I guess Jim misheard the name when it was phoned in

Lato - Er hoped I wouldn't be asked that question this evening, I'm keeping a low profile (for a change).

Morning all - I wasn't ignoring you last night but had loads of paperwork to do, updating the Website, yesterday's match report and trying to make a start on next Wednesday's programme, there's no rest for the wicked, I should be around most of today to banter with if anyone's interested. If Gavin checks some of the lovely Paula's previous posts I'm sure he'll be able to see the avartar of Takumi, it was up for longer than an hour for the likes of Lato and Potters Bar Town to enjoy.

Red Robbo hasn't been in for a while, I hope he won't mind me posting Langford's report on here from their FA Cup game with Ely City on Saturday:

Langford fans can pack away their maps for Cardiff for another season as Ely City claimed victory at a showery Second Meadow on Saturday afternoon. In a Langford side that had just two players remaining from last season the new managerial team had a tough debut to senior football. Ely City got to grips with game early but were going to be troubled by the pace of John Coley and Marc Barnes. Simon Warren so nearly put the visitors ahead with an effort that just went wide of an open goal following a Jamie Kyle clearance. On twelve minutes a Langford forward movement broke down in their own half allowing Ely to break down the Reds left. Martin Westcott connected with the cross only to see his shot parried by Kyle but Nick Impey was quickly in to strike home the loose ball. Worse was to follow for Langford as with sixteen minutes gone a collision between Reds goalkeeper Jamie Kyle and Robins Nick Impey resulted in Kyle being stretchered off. Jamie Campbell came off the bench to take over between the sticks. Within two minutes Westcott swooped in on an Andy Chatters cross only to see his effort strike the Reds crossbar. Langford were being marshaled well by the visitors’ defense and Ely struck home a second goal on twenty four minutes. Andy Chatters’ right wing cross supplying the ammunition for Nick Impey to head home for his second of the game. Nine minutes before the break Langford put themselves back into the game with Gareth Grant’s quality pass putting in Marc Barnes for a run on goal which he converted with a finish of equal quality to open his account on his first team debut. The Reds pressured for an equaliser, the closest being a Joe Delasalle header from a Robert Groves corner that Robins keeper Tim Catley turned over the bar. Half time saw the Reds go in one goal down but still in with a chance of turning the game to their advantage. Six minutes after the interval Lee Pateman showed his strength in midfield to retain the ball and thread a pass through to John Coley who bore down on the Robins goal but had the misfortune to see shot beat the keeper hit the inside of the post and run along the line before being cleared. Jamie Campbell was then called into making a good save to deny Ely’s Andy Chatters after he had been put into a good shooting position by Nick Impey. This was followed by Martin Westcott firing wide when well placed as the Robins tried to kill the game off. Langford came back as they broke away through Groves down the left and Lee Pateman making strides into the Ely penalty area to convert Groves incoming cross from six yards and claim his first senior goal for the team. All square and all to play for, but the scores only remained level for a further three minutes. A challenge between Joe Delasalle and an Ely forward seemed to warrant a Langford free kick but the decision went against the Reds. The free kick was struck home by Andy Chatters from fully thirty yards past a static Campbell and Ely had regained the lead on the hour. With twenty two minutes left the Robins re-established their two goal advantage a defensive mix up allowing Chatters in with the ball running kindly for Nick Impey to drill home past Campbell from the edge of the area to complete a hat trick. Within two minutes Reds manager introduced new signings Wes Byrne and Rhys Davies to replace Dave Drury and Ricardo Small in an attempt refresh the Reds. Wes Byrne brought out another good save from keeper Catley as he broke through the Robins defense but it was the last chance for Langford as Ely City progressed into the next round where they will face a home tie against Southern League side Woodford United. On Tuesday evening the Reds start their League campaign with a trip to Welwyn Garden City and then the following Saturday travel to North London to take on one of the sides transferred from last season’s Ryman League in Kingsbury London Tigers. The Tigers merged with last seasons Kingsbury Town to compete in the SSML under a new name.

Incase anyone's interested a report on the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Replay between Eton Manor and St Margaretsbury which Manor won on penalties:

Like the end result, the weather turned for the worst with heavy rain on the journey to unsunny Tilbury and throughout the first half. The game was fairly end-to-end stuff with both teams creating opportunities but failing to finish. St Margaretsbury certainly edged the possession and attempts on goal in the first half, one being when Ryan Brown received a through-ball within the penalty area, only to be hacked down for what seemed a certain penalty...but not according to Referee Mr Jempegi. However, the pressure eventually resulted in a well-earned goal from top scorer Stevie Barker. In attempting to clear their lines, Steve badgered their defender and won the ball back on the edge of the penalty area and surged forward, only to be brought down. Although less clear than the first incident, this time a penalty was awarded and Steve tucked this away nicely to bring his goal total to three so far this season. Timing was perfect and 5 mins later the whistle went for half time. However, it was a game of two halves and Eton came back with the perfect response 5 mins into the second half. A scramble in the Bury 6 yard box was not cleared, allowing the ball to be fed across the goalface, where a close range shot was all that was needed. So game on! Again chances were had at both ends, with Eton edging possession and chances this time. However, as the game wore on, the Eton players were getting visibly more tired and had played all their subs, so we fancied our chances. But at full time we were still sitting at 1-1. In extra time the Bury certainly dominated this period but with chances not taken and despite the tired Eton legs, they managed to hang on to take the game to penalties. There certainly wasn't a great deal between the teams at the end of the day, but when you finish up hanging on, you somehow know that you have a fantastic opportunity to snatch the win! and that's exactly what happened, Eton kept their composure and slotted away 4 penalties, while Bury scored one, had one saved well and one off the crossbar! Celebrations ensued and one can hardly begrudge them when we later discovered this is the first FA Cup match they have one in 50 years! So good luck to Eton Manor in their next round. We certainly looked like we paid a price for our successful FA Cup run last season with our league performance, so there's an obvious up side to this result! On to the next games where the affable Ian Hart will need to round the troops for the away trip Saturday to Aylesbury Vale.

  • 3 months later...

Any thoughts on the FA Cup 3rd Round draw just made, these are the ties involving non-league Club's:

Blackpool v Aldershot or Basingstoke

Tamworth v Norwich

Salisbury or Nottingham Forest v Charlton

A bit disappointing and, if as expected, Tamworth are the only non-league representatives will this be the lowest figure for a good few years.
