GRS67 Posted August 19, 2006 Share Posted August 19, 2006 One game played, one game won, we won this game, but we made hard work of it in the first half. They took the lead very ealy on, in fact it was inside the first ten mins, they seemed to be happy enough to just kick lumps out of players when we were going forward, and we got a penalty a few mins later to draw level. The rest of the half was spent trying to break them down with not much success, though their keeper did have to make several good saves. The second half was a different story, we played the ball around on the floor a lot more, and they could not cope with that. The second goal came long overdue, a great finnish by Richard Morton, Stuart Blackburne could have had a hatrick on another day, but today he ended up empty handed, hitting the post two or three times. The third goal was a good strike by Paul Marks, Marks was sent off late in the game for a headbutt, but I thought their player should have gone as well. All in all, a good win, and start to the season. We can and will play a lot better then that, and we will score a lot more goals from the chances we created today. I thought they could not cope with us when we played football on the floor, and our level of fittnes was a lot better. RobbieO Posted August 19, 2006 Share Posted August 19, 2006 Right - First things first - lets talk about the Ref - Fair enough there were some late tackles but i think only 2 of the bookings were justified. The Lad who did the headbutt is a disgrace, what the hell did our man do apart from foul him. Nothing can condone that, even your own players were saying what an idiot he was. Meanwhile the Ref was missing lots of off the ball incidents, with the guy who was carded and the right wing back who elbowed at least 3 of our players in the face without a word being spoken to him? In a word - A prick. Meanwhile, without talking too much about my great finish in the first half ;-) i thought we were the better team by far in a poor first half from both sides, with the ref continually frustaing as he would listen to anything the players had to say. Second half - different story - Edgeware upped the game and some of the players playing were clearly unfit and our game began to fall apart, leaving us extremely open and ineffective going forward. Good finishes from the goalscorers - no complaints with the end result,you deserved it in the end, but we were the better side first half, the ref ruined what should have been a mans game. we have lost 2 key players in recent weeks who will be hard to replace, and the fitness MUST improve. Biggleswades goal was a good move with a nice through ball from their no. 7 (who was pivotal in most of the good things they did, before he tired in the 2nd half) and a cool finish from RobbieO. Edgware were awarded a penalty soon after, when Blackburne was upended in the box, a clear penalty which was converted by Gardener. Second Half Biggleswade noticeably tired and Edgware became much more dominant, scoring two and possibly could have had a couple more. Biggleswade looked short of fitness and bar one free kick didn't threaten the Edgware goal. I actually thought the Ref had a good game, most of the bookings were about right and the sending off was correct, although I agree with Gavin that the Biggleswade 7 was also lucky to stay on the pitch after a bit of retaliation. We did not play particulary well in the first half, but second half we were all over them. They were cleary unfit and tired at the end whereas were kept on running all game.
