Town 1 Hornchurch 2

lovely stuff

Recommended Posts

In the first half it was a midfield game of cat and mouse with few chances until the last 15 minutes. Hornchurch began to get on top and finally Garry Cross netted in the 37th minute.

In the second half JJ brought down a player and Mark Janney slotted home the penalty. This was the town wake up call and Jamie Mackey came on for Steve Velandia. Suddenly Town were winning more in the midfield. Finally on 59 minutes Hammatt clawed one back. Town then hit the post and then Dave Hunt did his party piece of hitting the underside of the bar but not going in. Town were well on top at the end but the ball did not go in the net to get the draw. A crashing late tackle by Ricki Burbridge may have done Waltham Abbey a favour leaving Adam Gant on the floor for a while.

So no disgrace, but no 3 point either. The urchins looked good like Town by no means the finished article yet.

The last half hour gave me hope, upto then we played like a team who didnt know each other, which is exactly it, they dont, but the last half hour we came alive.

Until Hornchurch scored they looked as good as us, over the 90 mins they deserved the win, and like us will get better as the season goes on.

So onto Wabbey & no panic until at least six games in!

A close game, but a draw may have been a fair result, but Hornchurch were quicker to the ball, and seemed to get the rub of the green

was the "challenge" by RB a left over from the ESL days? it was out of character for the game.

another point gate of 357, quite low really.

well at least the Golden Goal was the right result!

a tale of two halves for sure but I think we probably just deserved it....average and usual ryman one officials with funny little legs

Forst half was a tense midfield battle with AFCH just about deserving their lead. They continued where they left off in the second until we scored a crackign goal. From there on we hit the wood/metal work twice and definately had the best of play from there on. To my mind we deserved a draw.

Who the hell was that muppett who was screaming at the ref at the end? His side had just won!!!

Bryan Hammet: Man of the match for the town?

What ?
Where was the leadership from the Captain ?
Where was the encouragement to the team during the first half shambles ?
Yes, Bryan hit a good goal, but was that not his only shot on target ?

Town played totally "in orr" of Church for the first 45 minutes and only got going when 0 - 2 down and Black pushed forward from his deep position in front of the back line.

Why did Town give Church so much respect in the first half ? It just encouraged them to dominate play.
IF only Town had gone at Church from the start they would have got at least a draw if not a win.

When under pressure, Hornchurch defence was not that confident and the Keeper had some luck with the post and bar assisting him with the very few shots that were on target.

Town need to "up their pace" against The Wabbey.

It just seemed to me that the Players / Management were "not up for it" in the first half.

I do not understand why.

Town let Hornchurch take control from the start.

It's only one game and there will be improvement, but, attitudes must not get set to this low level.

Self-Confidence is needed.

It does seem as though people behind the goal do not see the whole picture.

For the first 20 minutes Town were the dominant side. They played damn good passing football to feet and Bryan was instrumental in that. Telling the players were to go and what to do. He calmed tempers when they were getting heated with some of the decisions by the ref. (The header away from a corner when a throw in was given to Hornchurch). As the midfield tired, epsecially Valnedia, who became less effectual as he received two early warnings from the ref. Hornchurch became more dominnat and there first goal was on the cards for around 5 minutes before they scored. Then I think we were thankful for the half time whislte.

Second half after Valendia went off and he was replaced with Black the team had more shape and Mackey can on we had more options from the middle.

You lot behind the goal did not seem to notice Bryan's defensive work and certainlhy did not hear him captaining the side. His captaincy was streets ahead of Rudi Hall.

His goal was well taken and as for shots on goal. Our other forward had one fewer than Bryan! Bryan cut in from the bye line on at least one occassion and was making some deft touches from midfield and was able to link with smith on many occassions. When Smith was subbed he broke down at least one Hornchurc attack down that flank when manhy defenders were asking Peter who was to cover it! He also played through an injury which was in front of the Church bench midway through the second half. If all our subs had not been used by that time I think he might have gone off. He was certainly in a little pain.

Mackey was good but you cannot give MOM to someone who comes on for 1/3 of the game.

Tell me who else on the Town side was consistent throughout the game. I know that Bryan has a lot of "history" to live down but if he is going to be slagged off he deserves praise where it is due.
