r u being serious!? it was "without a reply" cos wen u are 5-0 at half time, u dont need to go all out attack to get 6,7,8 as even tho this wud be amazing in reality is not gunna happen and is not necessary.cant u just enjoy the result and be positive rather than trying to find any negatives u can.

Of course I will enjoy the result and as you say maybe no need to go all out attack, however in a game we seemed to be dominating to let in two goal you want to know if it was down to bad play or bad luck.

I note that Worthing did have several chances so it may be more a case of our defence playing well to keep it to two whilst our attack put all their chances away.

Dont worry I will.

Tomorrow in the pub I will be wearing my Margate shirt to counter those wearing their Chelsea ones and back in the London office on Monday my colleagues will know all about the result. Will endeavour to have more and more people around the country looking out for Margate scores.

Not bad luck-the goals from Worthing were always coming-defence exposed on quite a few occasions, and we do suffer from that lack of pace-don't slate the defence too much though, as imo, midfield should have taken a bit more control and kept possession better in second half-defence starts in midfield

Quite a strong wind which Margate took full advantage of first half.

It could easily have been 7-6 today.

Thank goodness DH had his shooting boots on.

Worthing had quite a few chances but headers just went over, SCS made saves with feet, arms legs

Worthing are actually quite a good side, and i don't think many sides will beat them esp at Worthing, so we should saviour the result.

We did deserve to win, and deserve to score 5 goals, but it could have been very close if we did not have run of play.

Having said that their goalie should have been sent off for conceding the penalty when JP was in on goal.

Great day, great result, and great squad assembled now we have that extra striker in Manny-wonder if he is signed for season, or on non-contract terms (Yiga and Sesay in the stand with a couple of the younger players, so great to see all the squad there.)

Always easier on a grassy pitch with the sun out, but both sides played some good football esp Margate

Probably about 80 MFC supporters there today.

Think we are top of the league tonight !!

The first half hour was embarrassingly easy, despite SCS keeping us in it in the 3rd minute. We seemed to ease off, and then when they took the game to us in the second half we couldn't up the pace.

Still it was nice to see a team of Gate players who can control the ball and pass to their own team-mates on most occasions.

Defence: Well-drilled most of the time but poor marking occasionally and a distinct lack of pace. Wild and Skinner left it for each other to result in the first goal conceded. Wild was outpaced by Brown for the second. SCS excellent; man of the match for me without a doubt.

Midfield: Loads of class, especially Protheroe and Jackson. Might struggle for pace against fast teams.

Forwards: Pinnock excellent and still speedy at the end. Hockton continues his great scoring record, but slowed down a lot in the second half. Hasn't he got a young baby? That might explain it. Manny should have come on for him towards the end.

Overall there's still plenty to work on, but also plenty to be optimistic about. A great match to watch. Hopefully will persuade a few more of our fairweather friends to come on Tuesday.

To put it in perspective, I reckon today's team would have beaten the Margate of a year ago by about 8-0.

I must admit that I was surprised at some fans criticising the second half performance. We had finished the job, before half time, against a side that probably won't lose that many this season. As said elsewhere their goals were always coming but Margate's finishing in the opening half hour meant that there would never really be any threat.

Both of Worthings goals came once Trott took himself off for Chris Wild and to be honest, when you are 5-0 up it is the right time to give someone a run-out.

There was a lack of real chances for Margate in the second half but, once again, the job had already been done and there is absolutely no point in pushing for the 6th, 7th and 8th goals if it means risking injury before Tuesday nights game.

On the whole this performance suggests that we will be hard to beat this term, albeit with maybe a bit of work to be done at the back, anyone in the league would be hard pushed to beat Hockton to the top scorer award and the team is gelling extremely well after only being together for a few weeks.

Also, given that Worthing weren't too bad a side, C-S's reflex save in the opening couple of minutes could have been the key as an early goal for the home side could have given a completely different outlook on the game.

I think its only Chris and myself who have posted, and can't see where either of us have particularly crticised second half performance !!!

If it came over that way, it was in error.

If nothing else, the wind was quite strong, and it was almost inevitable we would concede at least one against that.

You always look for perfection and a clean sheet which did not quite happen, but think we are all pretty happy tonight;and again as you say, excepting RT, no injuries or stupid bookings(MCKImm was lucky though not to get booked).

I do think, the left hand side of midfield could have worked a bit harder to keep possession more.

It was pretty stuff at times, but keeping the ball for longer may have been better.

What the heck though, we won,and i think most of us appreciate that these guys are only part time and so mistakes will occur.

I'll gladly take a 1-0 flukey win on Tuesday night

A magnificent first 30 minutes. The save Scott made before we had scored was a point that has to be mentioned. As above post says it was a major incident in the game otherwise we might not be looking at this score today. We would have won I have no doubts about that but he saved the day definately & that allowed the others to finish them off early. Getting out of the blocks first I had said would be a major factor in getting victory & this they did with some authority. That save gave us a good kick up the backside it was at a good time in the game to get it too. Finishing was magical & we could easily have gone in at half-time 8-2 in front. Scott also made another unbelieavable save in that first half.

Second half.Well sorry but no excuses for playing like that & its not the way to get promoted. Being 5-0 up wont wash with me & Trotty needs to sort that out pronto. I am not a moron & would like to say more about the second half but on this occason I'll abstain because of the magnificent first 30 minutes.I'll say no more about it.

A win by any means was what I was hoping for & we got a thouroughly deserved win despite that second half performance.

Too much moaning by certain players however at each other despite being 5-0 up.Its always nice to hear some vocals & its also good that they care that much.Thats good, but there should only be one guvnor out there i.m.o.You would have thought we were losing had you heard the moaning at each other on occasions, more than one occasion.Still, they as players are probably looking at perfection, something I look for too & so for today it should be overlooked but not be failed to have a mention..

My men of the match were Scott in goal.Truly magnificent. You had to be there to really appreciate his saves.Out of this world. He had no chance with their two goals. Poor poor defending. Oates was very good today. The best I have seen him play for a long while.Up front obviously Danny takes praise for scoring 3 good goals but the man in the outfield that impressed me more than anyone was James PINNOCK. Absloutely great. Put himself about always found room, never stopped running & was always in the thick of things.Close call for man of the match but I give it a tie between Pinnock & Chalmers-Stevens.

The first half hour ALL played up to our expectations. All players remarkable in that spell.Flowing football, everything.

Great support there today with all the hats.

Worthing will struggle this year there is no doubt unless they sort themselves out. We must have had them in shock in that first 30 minutes & they probably couldnt react positively until they started to move forward in the second half.. But all their best efforts WERE from defensive errors.

A great start nevertheless to the season. I'm altogether happy but there are some things that DO need addressing, quickly.

If this in response to my post Michael rest assured it was not aimed at you. I was actually referring to people I spoke to during the second half and not yours or Chris' posts on here.

First half WOW. What an awesome display in the first half. Just incredible. I don't think I will ever forget that performance. Brought back memories of demolishing Woking a couple of years ago only this time the football and skill was a whole lot better. We clearly eased off at half time and hopefully everyone is ready to go for it on Tuesday.

What a fantastic day!

The first 30 minutes we blew them away with some wonderful attacking football. Whoever said the scoreline flattered us must have been watching a different game! Apart from 1 very good save by Scott C-S, we really did play them off the park in the first half.

We knew the game was over at half-time, so unsurprisingly sat back. Protheroe was my man of the match - he controlled the game and his distribution was superb. Although it's difficult not to give MOM to Hockton for his superbly taken hat-trick, especially his third.

I agree that I think Worthing will be difficult to beat on their own patch, so this was an absolutely brilliant result. If we play like we did for the first 30 minutes today, it's hard to see who will be able to beat us. Of course, a BIG if, but, nonetheless, I am very very happy tonight!

Up the Gate!!
