Today's game

Good to read the positive posts after the Tamworth game. Currently lazing about on holiday & hoping for more texts this afternoon like those I got on Tuesday.

Be tough though - see York won at Stevenage. Who is playing left back with Sacha injured?

Grrr! Hoofing the ball to strikers who will not win them against 6ft3 defenders, linesmen with tiwtches in their flag hands, throwing them up every time we break, diving dirty northerners! And only 1037?? when there were around 200 York fans there! What happened to the attacking, free-flowing, NON-HOOFING game we played on tuesday?

I would have said it was more like 100 York supporters..

But yeh frustrating game as we were all over them in the first half, especially the first 10 minutes then in the second half they got back on top. Shame Luke Moore didn't get us the goal when he was one on one with the keeper, definitly the most annoying moment of the game!

Not a bad performance though

Oh I don't know... James Smith blazing over at the death was frustrating as hell!

A lot of moans again when Moore was announced as man of the match, but I think he had a very good game today. Looks more promising coming in from the flanks than he does as a centre forward sometimes!

Not a bad performance and unlucky in the end not to get at least a point. Disagree with Moore getting the man of the match, I thought either Ross Smith or Mark Debolla who with a bit of luck and the odd deflection or two would have added to his goal scoring tally again.

I would say however that if there is very little point in playing route 1 football, ie the big hoof down the middle unless the club intend signing a tall target man. Macdonald and Moore had no chance.

I remain unconvinced about whether Paul Macarthy is still up to playing at Conference level. Whilst he has plenty of experience and gets away with a lot because of his positioning he still gets caught out on a one against one ball chase far too often.

What about Danny Ekoku blazing over from a few yards out? Not blaming him though - was a tough chance to take.
I felt we played well today: though not at our best.
We were the better today and deserved at least a point.
And as for York: they seemed to spend half the match on the floor and then the rest of the match obstucting our players and mulling over who should take set-pieces.
I felt Charlie and Luke were being manhandled every time they entred the area!
At the risk of sounding like a soar loser I shall say this: We fell foul of the Referee, he gave a number of strange desicions to both sides.

We must've been watching different games! I thought some of Ross' distribution was awful, while I thought McCarthy was one of the better defenders today!

For anyone behind the goal, or with extremely good eyesight....how close were Ekoku's chances and should he have put either - although, the header especially - away?

Don't know how he missed either of them, although the header was offside. Very frustrating today, York didn't deserve to win we and deserved at least a point. Oh well thats football I suppose, we'll beat them next season because they won't be anywhere near promotion.

I thought Luke Moore was considered for MOM just for his persistence and effort; that boy doesn't know what 'giving up' is.

I thought Ekoku was the opposite (I don't want to judge him on 20 minutes of football) but he didn't seem to jump for headers, didn't want to run onto balls, or win back lost balls, or get into positions from where he could head! As I said though, I won't judge him on today's display.

McCarthy's challenge on Donaldson, before the ball rebounded and Lance had to make a great 1-on-1 save, was quality, but I think he is past it. Excellent reader of the game, but his distribution is poor; he doesn't know how to not hoof it, and he seriously lacks pace.

Jon Keeling was by far the most potential threat we had, when he was allowed to venture forward a bit more in the second half he caused no end of threat to the York defence, pity know one was on the same wavelength as him.HOOF, HOOF, OH S*IT I'VE GOT THE BALL, WELL HOOF IT. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Luke had a solid 1st half, I thought, but rather faded out of the game in the 2nd half. He was, however, slightly unfortunate with the 1 on 1 - he chased down the pass back well, ut was still stretching slightly to nick the ball away from the keeper, which gave the keeper the chance to touch the ball and a covering defender the chance to clear.

A shame that Ekoku's effort over the top & James Smith's mishit volley didnt fall to Charlie Mac - I'm sure at least 1 of those would then have hit the net.

Think York marginally deservbed to be ahead at half time, but we should have had a point at least by the end.

Poor attendance today, but several oher Conference sides seem to be suffering as well - Daggers only had 947 against Tamworth - only a handful more than our Tuesday game, and Woking's attendance of 1222against Morecambe wasnt great either for a team who ued to get much bigger home gates.

In my view, York were the better footballing team today. Knocked the ball around with good effect and created the odd chance or two in the first half in which Donaldson tucked one away.

However I was impressed with our fighting spirit and our commitment to put in challenges from the first to last in order to get at least a point from the game.

Our back three today of R.Smith, MacCarthy and J.Smith are all very good defenders, win challenges on the floor and in the air, but seem to lack that decent pass to set us up on a counter attack.

I thought DeBolla played well, as he has great ability to play these long passes across field but never seems to play a short simple 5 yard pass, which you have to be able to do to dominate a good footballing side like York. We had some brilliant chances to level it at the end, but it just wasnt our day in front of goal.

We didn't deserve to win and they didn't deserve to lose.

Overall though, a major improvement on last season.

west ham at home to charlton, big game round these parts, well at least it would have been for daggers.

I came away frustrated, we can play better and a couple of times we showed how we can get it down and pass it. York weren't a huge threat i didn't think after their first goal, altho maybe donaldson would have wondered how he missed his first clear chance.

Overall not a poor performance, we didn't look out of it after their 1st goal when they could have taken advantage and tried to control the whole game. Maybe on another day we will get those goals and have the last laugh!
