Newing & Deanus looking forward to the challange of the Spartan League

Recommended Posts

I have had to type this, as its not online, but this is the article.....

Having built a squad in double quick time last year following their appointment as the season was just about to get underway, pre season this time round has been a comparitive doddle for the Edgware Town Mangagerial duo of Steve Newing & Del Deanus.

Apart from the loss of Craig White who has gone to Flackwell Heath, but could yet return, Newing a& Deanus have retained the bulk of last season's squad and made some notable additons.

New signings include midfielder Ben Hayden from Turo City, young full back Phil Kane who was with Wycombe's acadamey, prolific striker Adam Wallace from herts county club Hadley and ex Hemel and Northwood midfielder Carl McCluskey.

Newing is looking forward to the challange of life in the Spartan League and is expecting his side to do well. He said, " We know the standard all round is going to be higher then last year, more games will make the league more competitive.

I've spoken to one or two managers who've seen us in pre season who know what the spartan league is like and they think with what we have got we should be looking to achieve a top six finnish.

Having kept nearly all our squad from last season and with the added bonus of a reserve side, it makes the club all round a lot stronger. Off the back of that, myself and Del think a top six place would be a good season, and prehaps we could make the top three. Although the club is now on a secure footing with regard to our home, we are still constrained by our budget. Some clubs will be throwing money around and we can't compete with that, but money does not always buy you success, whats good is that we have have an honest hard working bunch of players with a great team spirit, and they are not short of ability".

With Captain Rory Smith back in the side, Edgware will be at full strength for the opener at home to Biggleswade Utd on Saturday.

"They are a strong side, and well organised, who dont give much away, it will be a decent test for us" said Newing.

......

I wonder what teams are thowing money around? any ideas?

Interesting that Steve thinks the standard is going to be better then ryman 2, the blows my point about it being a weaker divison.
