New stadium

Recommended Posts

Chatting to a mate on Tuesday, we got talking about the new ground.

Whatever the cost is, and wherever it will be located, surely it cannot sport the same benefits of redeveloping good old Stonebridge Road - if we could get a long lease.

Some benfits are:-

Good rail links, ie close to Northfleet AND Ebbsfleet international- all with 10 mins walk.

Good road links, ie on the main A226, with easy access from the East (Gravesend) West( Dartford) and South (A2 + Dartford Crossing)

Good local bus links.

Good car parking for up to 500 cars within 5 minute walk.

Minimum congestion for cars after the game, giving minimum incovenience to local residents.

The stadium would of course need upgrading by flattening the old stand and replacing it with a full pitch length stand with 2000 seats

Refurbish the main road terrace, making it the full length of the pitch and stepping it back a further 10' and having turnstiles and emergency exits at the back directly onto the path opposite the garage.

I'm sure the capacity would then be over 5000.

The only areas that would then require upgrading would be both ends, which will be ok for the forseeable future.

Whilst I agree that a shiny new ground 'should' be the way forward, I do wonder if the benefits of staying put and refurbishing what we have is another option.

But, if Ebbsfleet does develop into a small town of its' own, ( I've heard, although it may not be correct by any means) numbers of houses being built could top 10,000. If that happened, surely the area would have the best transport links around, as the council could well use the development as an opportunity to renovate the transport system?

I think both are ideal locations, but (I'm not sure!) I thought the idea with Ebbsfleet was to own our own stadium; be able to expand on a stadium that we knew we had a long-term future in, and be able to easily, (or easier?) build a stadium with a capacity of 6000-8000, without tearing up Stonebridge Road?

Alot of ifs and buts here, and comments I'm not too sure on, but it's just my outtake:)

Quite agree. Although moving would be a great step forward for the club, Stonebridge Road is our home. It can be quite easily be refurbished and developed to make the capacity bigger, not that we even need it.

We could build a new and shiny, really futuristic new stadium, and the Plough End at Stonebridge Road could have more character, especially on matchday with the Drum and co! Some other people might just think Stonebridge Road is a derelict and oversizes shed, though, I think the character of the place has alot to do with the people in it and whether the stadium suits them; ie Fratton Park for Portsmouth fans, and St James Park for Newcastle. Those stadiums seem to be suited to the fans.

Compared to grounds, like aldershot for example, parking is easy around The Fleet ground. And as for traffic. Well it took me 30 mins to get out of aldershot, and canvey was just as bad. So perhaps you should use these as measuring sticks before you complain about parking and access to and from the ground.

Dreams oh Dreams !

The last I heard was that the Ebbsfleet "town" and everything to do with it, was at best on hold and at worst cancelled.

I have also made some fairly detailed equiries into there being plans for a stadium for us, or whoever and at this point in time it is no more than an "idea".

No-where has been allocated nor any funding.

So let's assume we are to stay put and hope that the Board actually deal with getting our current stadium to level that approaches being "acceptable"

I hope the local authority don't access this forum CG. Parking Meters or double yellows will be popping up all over the place. enough work for another 3 traffic wardens as I see it.
