Countdown to Boreham Wood

I think this will be a tough start. Boreham Wood just promoted. They reached the semis of the trophy last season, so will be no mugs. But think we can sneak an away win, so 1-0 us. I always like their ground too. A nice goal like we had almost identical time of year 3-4 years ago at their place would be nice too !!

The BTFC. net match report for that game:

Quote:
Boreham Wood 1-3 Billericay

Billericay made it two wins out of two on Monday night with a commanding performance against a team they had failed to beat last season. Billericay boss, Gary Calder, made just one change from the team that beat Harrow, Martin Carthy coming in to midfield with Scott Forrester moving to the bench, leaving Paul Fewings to lead the line on his own.

The opening half an hour was largely disapointing from an action point of view with Garry Wotton and Paul Fewings sending headers wide for their respective sides. Despite playing with one striker up against three towering Boreham Wood centre backs, too often Billericay resorted to pumping high balls forward which the home defence had little trouble in dealing with.

When Billericay got the ball down and played it around, however, it was a different matter as superior passing and movemnt saw them start to dominate. Billericay had to be greatful for the agility of JJ after 39 minutes, when he did very well to deny Gary Dixon. The best attacking move of the first half saw Billericay take the lead. Mark Graham nutmegged Colin Wall on the right wing, then crossed to his brother Richard. The younger Graham flicked the ball on to Paul Fewings who made it two goals in two games with an assured finish.

Half time didn't see any substitutions from Town, however Calder did make one tactical change, pushing Richard Graham into a more central attacking position. The switch payed immediate dividends when, 2 minutes after the break Graham got into the box and was unceremoniously tripped. Mark Brennan stepped up and cooly converted the penalty. Billericay were largely in control of the match at this point with some good passing play.

Billericay added a third goal with twenty minutes to go. Richard Graham who was becoming increasingly influential turned away from Colin Wall in the wood defense, however Wall recovered with a superb recovery tackle to put the ball out for a corner. The corner picked out Lee Williams who unleashed a fizzing volley from fully 25 yards that the wood goalie had no chance of saving

To their credit Boreham never gave up trying to get back in the match, John was again called on to show his ability, pulling off a superb close range save to deny Wotton. Bubb was introduced late on and again showed some blistering pace. With 5 minutes remaining, Andy Douglas netted a consolation goal for the home side when the Town defence momentarily switched off.

Overall then, an improvement from Saturday, but I get the feeling that there is still plenty more to come from this team as against Boreham Wood they only played well in patches. The opening two games have seen Town collect the maximum six points - four more than the corresponding fixtures last season!

Team:John, McDonald, Kerrigan, Penn, Moore, Brennan, R.Graham, Williams, Fewings (Bubb 81), M.Graham (Wallace 76), Carthy

Subs not used: Baker, Henty, Forrester

Not sure how strong Boreham Wood are - they've got a few suspensions and injury doubts, as do we! I reckon we'll open with a 0-0 draw.

For the drivers going tomorrow, there are roadworks at The Holmesdale Tunnel which has reduced lanes to 2 with the usual contra flows and 40mph speed restrictions. Boreham Wood is only 35 miles from Billericay but best add some extra time for the countrys favourite car park M25!!

Cheers, Keith....I'll be leaving Billericay at 12.30 with passengers who are certainly looking forward to getting a couple of extra beers in should we walk into the ground at five past one...

During the drive, they will be entertained by listening to Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland"...Anyone passing my car, will recognise a person of White Tash fame "air guitaring" in the front passenger seat!!!
