Our next FA Cup opponents.

Recommended Posts

Over the past two seasons we have played teams in the FA Cup that have enjoyed a recent surge of cash into their clubs and then the week after we played them something happened to them both that would have helped us gain victory.

In 2004-2005 it was Hornchurch. They were bought by a double glazing firm who poured a lot of money into the club, the week after they played us the firm went bust and the club was left to pay high wages without any money coming in.

In 2005-2006 it was Kettering Town. A Milton Keynes based consortium approached to buy the club last September and October, boasting deep pockets and a new manager in Paul Gascoigne. We were previous manager, Kevin Wilson's, last game in charge. Had we played Kettering a few weeks after we did then the team that Gazza destroyed would have probably been easier to beat.

Now this season what are the odds of us getting this lot, Guisley Town? I can see it now; they run out 5-0 winners over us and a week later the new consortium of three decide to leave to form a rock band in order to follow a musical career.

Sadly, it wouldn't happen. As I understand, the FA Cup games are regionalised from the extra-preliminary round until the first round proper - so we'd always end up with a 'southern' side.

It will be Crawley Town then! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

We ought to win a trophy this year, I'm fed up of dismal displays in competitions

Either your tongue's firmly nestling in your cheek there or that's what I call positive thinking - I like it!

Fleet to be the first non-league side since Spurs in 1901 to lift the FA Cup? Hmm...

C'mon Liam - we supporters expect nothing less - aside from stuffing Chelsea 5-1 in the final that is (we're bound to score an own goal!)
