Hertford Town V Kentish Town

Recommended Posts

HTFC One - I beg to differ as I think it was much further out than 18 yards and at an angle, as you rightly say, which made it all the more difficult particularly bearing in mind where the ball ended up in the top far corner of the net which your bemused keeper clutching at thin air. It's amazing how much interest this pre-season game created and, as I've already said, we were really grateful to Hertford Town for being given the opportunity to play at Hertingfordbury Park when Wembley pulled out of your scheduled friendly at short notice.

HTFCew - Well isn't that an accurate description then, it was like David Seaman in Japan all over again except that your keeper was actually on his line!

HTFCew - Not sure whether this is the right thread to use but I won't do a Gavin just to say guess who came on as substitute for us yesterday.

HTFCew - Spot on, the wonder goal merchant who can't even get into our First Team at the moment.

HTFCew - I meant to tell you that we only got the fines through last Friday for the three players that were booked in the famous friendly, did you receive yours too. I thought we had got away with it paticularly with not having numbers on our shirts.

Did we have any booked?

No Only Kentish Town's 3 BTW I'm vindicated! In my match report I referred to "several" bookings and Rhodes took me to task, saying that there were only two. Now he says three - surely "several"?

Folks - I'm sure you had at least two bookings in the game but it could be just the one, I'm trying to get our three rescinded with the Herts FA as, if you recall, the Referee was extremely over zealous for a friendly and it has caused us difficulties with suspensions. It is something we could have done without however we obviously don't regret having the friendly with you and the famous goal is very much part of Kentish Town folklore.

Rhodes, one of you players actually got booked twice if my memory serves me right but either he was clever enough to give a different name or the ref was lenient.

Ref wasn't over zealous, just protecting our precious stars from the brutal tactics from lower league thugs....

How on earth can you expect to get the bookings rescinded. The referee ( a level 4 ref, who knows PBT ) was lenient in the extreme before finally losing his patience with your team's strongarm tactics. Like NF, I believe that two of your three bookings were of the same player!

A few questions spring to mind here, Rhodes.

Firstly, how could a booking in a friendly cause problems with suspensions? Surely that would only be the case after five bookings and, if a player already has five bookings by the last week of September, it makes it difficult to argue unjustness if it is a player who clearly gets in trouble frequently.

Secondly, a caution can only be rescinded on a point of law (and not on a matter of the referee's opinion) or mistaken identity (in which case a team mate would have to carry the can instead). What argument are you using to ask the Herts FA to rescind? Are you aware that the Herts FA would take the player's overall record into account (see question one, above).

Finally, you say the referee was "extremely over zealous for a friendly". Is this fact or just your opinion because it was your players that got cautioned? Even if it were fact, is there a separate set of Laws of the Game for friendlies?
