11 - 0 Spurs win

Spurs were as you would expect a very good side and while no team want`s to lose by that sort of score there wasn`t a lot we could do about it, they forced us into making a few mistakes and punished us everytime.

It wasn`t all bad news a decent crowd of over 1000 should help the clubs bank balance :bounce

To me the team seemed to have one eye on this weekend, and I don't blame them. While I enjoy playing big name teams, their primary objective is to fill the coffers, which with an attendance of 1170 I'm sure it did.

Agree, that some players didn't get too stuck in, but with the League only six days away I wouldn't wanna be getting too tired, or even injured right now either.

Tottenham, like Southend used the width to their advantage and sucked us in every time. Only in the second half did we really build some momentum when Spurs took their foot off the gas. Bourne looked like he was playing sweeper in the first half, we were that close together.

I would like to think that the majority of the Spurs players on the pitch will be knocking on the door of the Premiership in the next few years as they certainly know how to give a team a good work through. 4-0 down after 17 minutes made it a bit of a reality check!

For me I think Nicky Rugg or Clyde Roberts was our best player on the night and while it was entertaining for most, bring on the season!!!

Everyone was going on about Lee Barnard so I would imagine it was him. Personally, I haven't heard of any of them but then I'm not a Tottenham fan, nor pay that much attention to League football.

ok rant time!! I for one was sitting down, and i missed half the game with people walking past. Can we do something about this please, there is a walkway round the back of the seating area, can we get stewards from the start of the match till the end making sure people use it.

Okay rant over, i thought the game itself was a good, just shows the difference of a professional side and southend!!. I thought at times that we were passing the ball to hard so it would bounce off the receiving player. I thought there no 10 was the best player of the night, he had a very quick turn of speed. It was a shame none of the real firdt team came and played like other friendlies, but at least my sons mate got martin jol signature!!. I think on a different night we could of scored a couple of goals against them, but it just wasnt our night last night.

Sorry that I was unable to make the game last night but hopefully a good healthy crowd like that will have added a good few bob into the clubs bank account and hopefully a good few of those who came last night who are not regulars or not been before, will have enjoyed themselves and come back again during the season.

11-0 sounds like a slaughter but from what I have read, many positives have come out of the night for Canvey. I watched young Ifill play for Spurs against Liverpool in the Premier League two seasons ago now and although not too many familiar names there, this Spurs team were no mugs. Hopefully our lads will learn from the experience and are looking forward to the league season beginning on Saturday now, when the results really start to matter.

I don't think I can sit here and say that I actually enjoyed watching my team lose 11-0 last night, but I don't think that we were poor by any means, just that Spurs were eleven times better. Shame really, 'cause I was hoping for something a lot closer and more competitive.

If we had have competed, we may have been able to attract a few extra for our match on Saturday, but as it is, I can't see that happening.

i just knew that you would post something negative.
be realistic. Spurs are a PREMIERSHIP side, any lad attached to that club aint gonna be [****!!****]!
last season our lads(average age 20) were playing as our reserve team - in the Essex and Hearts league.
give the Canvey lads more credit. they worked hard and at times showed flashes of what they are capable of.
Gully says - WELL DONE LADS,I AM PROUD OF YOU

To be fair, they weren't local lads from London. Their players have been hand picked from all over the country and even abroad and Martin Jol wasnt their for a day trip. Obviously he thinks a few of their players will be making premiership appearances this season.

Anyway, our season starts Saturday and the important things from last nights games were a good run out for the team and money in the bank.

roll on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clive Allen`s view on yesterdays game http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/firstclassxi.html

First Class X1

[/iClive Allen was delighted with the response of our Spurs XI side at Canvey Island after last week's loss at Dover.

A younger squad was in clinical form at Park Lane as Charlie Daniels bagged a hat-trick inside the opening 18 minutes on our way to an 11-0 victory.

It was 5-0 at half-time before Lee Barnard stole the show with another treble in the second half, taking his tally to four on the night. The impressive Jamie O'Hara and Andy Barcham added two goals each in the Spurs XI's final pre-season friendly of the summer.

"We started in the right manner from the minute we stepped into the changing room," said development coach Clive. "We spoke about last week at Dover and this win and performance was the perfect way to bounce back.

"The attitude was first class, the lads have worked hard in the last few days because I've not been easy on them and I wanted a performance. That's exactly what we got.

"Whoever you play, it's difficult to score the number of goals we scored.

"The most pleasing thing was the quality of the play, the way we attacked the game, the chances we created and the way we took the goals.

"At half-time it was a case of keeping it going and the biggest challenge I laid down was not to concede a goal and we did that from front to back.

"Again, it doesn't matter who you are playing, in terms of confidence and belief in what we're trying to achieve, that was a first-class performance."

for some reason they closed the walkway around the back of the stand forcing people to walk round the front. the Stewards are suposed to stop them but werent for some reason last night

as far as the game goes, if we had put away the few really good chances we had last night in the first half it would have been a different game and maybe a more respectable score. the boys played really well and Wiseman was fantastic but the first touch of the Spurs players was all the difference, it gave them about 2 foot of space every single time.
