Some of you may remember Romauld from a few years back, played at left back in the season we played at Ashford I believe.

Well by the looks of it he made quite a name for himself at Clyde.

Check this out!

I saw that Mark. Good stuff. I thought at first he had departed from us with the way it was put together.I doubt that is the case.Hope not. They certainly thought a lot of him up there.A very good tribute.Wonder where he's at these days.An answer will follow no doubt.

I thought a decent player.

Another player who in his brief stay, our supporters were critical of ,and then left to go on to do well.

I do think some peoples expectations of people are too much/too quickly

I would include the following as a list of players who for whatever reason, received more (imo unwarranted) criticism than most, and i would happily still be happy to se in a Gate shirt:

Jake Leberl-esp first season

Scott Ward

Bouadji

Sean Hankin.

Dean Beckwith .

[color:"blue"]It's the case with most of those players above that, as a player, they aren't bad. However when introduced into a team they suffer as they can't get on with the Managers system. As was the case with quite a few of CK's men, when they moved only a few adapted to other systems of play.

Lets hope he is signed and not allowed to drift away.

So easy for us armchair managers to glibly say, but there must be so many factors which we do not get an insight into.

Apart from the obvious of agreeing terms, it may not be much use looking at players if they can't drive or get to training /games,are bad trainers, unreliable etc. and RT has to take all factors like that into consideration.

Lets hope Wildes is the perfect guy and is signed up pdq

I agree with all of them with exception to Ward thought he was turd, i thought trego was better and he played with the same shitty defence and still came out of most games looking good.

Another to escape in CK's sometimes unfathomable rein was, Akpo Sodje, played 3,scored 2 for top of league 1 Port Vale this season.

Was,nt Akpo another one who the supporters moaned at, but he obviously had the right potential and sture if it could be harnessed.

Talking of which, i wonder where Darren Watson is these days.Did'nt seem to wok out at Hendon either.Just amazed ,as i thought that guy could really have made it

Interesting discussion this, as it has moved on to which ex-players we would like to see in a gate shirt this season.

Romaud and Ward were two who seem to have done ok elsewhere, but judging purely on their Gate performances I wouldn't give you tuppence for them. Don't you remember Ward letting in 6 that awful night at Ashford?

Akpo, yes definitely. If my memory is correct he came into the conference side after the successful Braithwaite/Collins partnership in the Doc Martins, so maybe supporters expected too much of him.

The only other former Gate players still playing I would rate as highly as the current squad:

Sam (of course)

Jay

Clarkie

Phil Smith (maybe)

Any other suggestions?

Yes he was injured for a period, but had great feet. But as with the others it is all in the past, time and events have moved on.

Why not turn our attention towards future talent spotting.

Had a interesting conversation with Tom Hickman yesterday about the local talent at the club at the moment and his determination to bring them on, plus his ambition to force himself into the reckoning.

it would be unfair to go into detail but he was confident and pleased with the way the new reserves played against a Dover side that had been playing together for a few seasons. I believe the jump from Sunday league to the Ryman premier is large, maybe to large in such a short time. The youngsters we have need to be given time to learn their trade.

I believe we still need to look outside for another season or so to bring in talent, but talent young enough to grow with the club.

The training in the nursery looks very good and professional, i believe they are training upto 4 days per week.

So if you have any positive ideas for future talent lets all hear about it.

[color:"blue"]Interesting angle this particular topic, reading Chris1 comments I wonder why he only gives a maybe for Phil Smith, who must surely rate as our best 'keeper in recent years (though not quite as good as Lee Turner prior to the Conference).

I was surprised to read a few days ago that Clarkie has retired from playing, this despite the fact he could probably walk into any Ryman Premier & most Conference South sides and is only 30 years old - a waste surely.

[color:"blue"]The Ward debate continues, it should be remembered that the season before the ill-fated Grays hammering at Ashford, we suffered against Grays with a strong Conference defence in 2 FA Cup ties (the second only earned by some dodgy timekeeping by Mr Singh).

Our frail Conference South defence was also ripped apart by the pace of young Freddie Eastwood (now parading his skills for Championship side Southend) and another Kinnear reject Leroy Griffiths (add him to your list Chris1).

I wasn't at that game for the 6-0 reversal, but was not surprised by the result (given the state of the defence). This wasn't just a fluke result, as Grays dominated most sides that season.

Ward took the brunt of the criticism (whether justly I can't comment), but if the doors of the defence open in front of you can you be blamed for 'giving in'?
