48 Hour Conference Club Challenge: Update 03

With only two weeks left for preparations and fundraising, responses this week appear to have stepped up a gear. In a week dominated by radio interviews, we have also been approached by local newspapers in other regions, and of course welcome their coverage alongside the excellent local coverage we are receiving in the Lancaster & Morecambe area.

I expect more people will now be aware of the challenge following the Conference league kick-off this week, and this is probably the underlying reason why the profile of the challenge appears to have increased nationwide.

At Morecambe the Morecambe FC Junior Reds are to carry out a collection inside the ground at half-time during the Stevenage Borough match prior to the challenge team’s departure at 5pm.

The York Hotel in Morecambe are to supply us with a giant flag, incorporating the Brain Tumour UK logo. This will accompany us on our journey and will be made available to everyone who meets us to sign and write a message on.

Here are a few of the responses we have received from other clubs so far:

Aldershot: At our Board meeting this week I raised the subject of your Challange. Everyone was in favour of a gift for you. Good Luck. Paul Muddell Supporters Club Chairman.

Exeter City: I’ll feature the famous five in either one of our home programmes against Forest Green or Altrincham. Mike Blackstone, Exeter City programme Editor

Forest Green Rovers: I will meet you, will you need watering and feeding? Colin Gardner, Chairman F.G.R.

Gravesend & Northfleet: Everyone here at the fleet thinks what you are doing is absolutely fantastic. Would a signed 06/07 season shirt and a framed and signed squad photo be ok? Rachel Willett, GNFC Matchday Magazine

Rushden & Diamonds: We will gladly meet you and give you an item for the auction. Rachel Roberts, Vice-Chair of the Supporters Trust

Stafford Rangers: I will coordinate help from the club and fans at Stafford Rangers. Phil Bennett, Stafford Rangers Supporters Trust

Tamworth: Best of luck in your challenge ,Tamworth back you all the way. Paul Robey.

Weymouth: Give me a shout if you’re not getting many donations from the Weymouth lot and I will start asking people specifically! Kind regards. Annaliese Wykes.

Brain Tumour UK: What you are achieving is fantastic, I will arrange to meet you at Oxford on behalf of the charity. Jenny Baker, OBE – Chief Executive.
