Burnham 2-1 Slough Town

Strange game where we lost due to a five minute spell early in the second-half due to defensive errors.

First half was pretty even, but bossed the last 15 minutes of that half in terms of posession, while they hit the bar.

Second half we thoroghly dominated, but a mistake by Drake gifted them the lead then poor marking lead to a header from a long throw resulting in a goal.

Jarvis (who played very well) pulled a goal back after a G knock back.

Performance was more impressive than the result. We defended OK apart from the five minute spell where we conceded two long goals. We dominated midfield with Alexis running the show.

But up front was the problem and is a big worry for me. We don't seem to have that goal poacher that will score us goals and a targetman and look very light in that department.

Team: Drake, Dell (Trialist), Woody, Jarvis, Leach, Lovers, Alexis, Mason, Glynn (Wilko), Odhiambo (Harris) , McCleary.

Not Used: Mark Bartley, Braich.

Must say that Steve Dell is looking an excellent signing.

Have to agree up front we are looking very lightweight and unless we get someone in of the Hodges mould we are going to struggle to score big time.

Unless it's just to make up the numbers I can't see the point of having Mark Bartley back, it smacks of desperation.

Not a bad game. Midfield looks as if it will easily be our best department, with Alexis outstanding yesterday. Glynn and Mason have also impressed me this pre-season and I think Mason is going to star this season, after improving so much last term. We should get quite a few goals from set-pieces with the delivery of Glynn and Mason and the big centre-halves causing havoc in the box. Dell also looked handy on the right, with his delivery also being quite good.

Couple of dodgy moments from Drake, which I'm sure he'll be disappointed about, coupled with a few smart saves and assured catching. I still think he's a decent signing.

The striker department worries me too, though I'm sure Wallace will grab more than a few when fully fit. Looks as if G will be operating either as a second striker or coming in off one of the wings.
