What is unrealistic about wanting success, Both we as supporters expect it and the club needs it.

With the signings we have made this year we SHOULD have great expectations.Damned right Graham why shouldnt we?

I am sorry if you think i am arrogant but, SUCCESS is what i and many others do expect, and will not be happy untill we get it.

Would I be right in saying that we are all expecting to have a strong first XI but not having too much budget left after that, therefore leaving a fairly shallow squad and not too much depth? Maybe we should ease off a little here and respect that RT has done the best he can with the budget he has been given. Maybe if Brayley, Yiga and Deen actually find clubs we might have some spare budget. Hopefully those that are not training with us or refuse to play but are contracted are not being paid anyway.

I am hopeful though that we could have a look at Bagley, Hickman, Chris Wild and Cory ahead of the likes of Hoggart, Wisker and Williams.

The feeling I am getting is that we DO wish & hope for success this season moreso than other seasons of late,as we have this year in particular valid reasons for thinkng that success is on the agenda.

Cant see where the arrogance has been shown. "SHOULD" have great expectations isn't being arrogant at all.Look at our signings! Are'nt you just a wee bit more hopeful than last season? In fact a LOT more hopeful than last season! Dont you believe we have a reason for being so.

I also doubt any of us have predicted Margate to finish top of the league this year.To finish second or thereabouts maybe but arrogance would be to predict a top place & not a second place or lower.

In other words arent you EXPECTING an IMPROVEMENT in results too because of those that have been brought in. Success is another thing & nothing is guaranteed & I doubt many are getting ahead of themselves at this point in the season.

Again, some have higher expectations than others. For the first time for a few seasons I am feeling positive. Not happy with some friendly matches true but with the players I KNOW will be in the starting line up for real we have an exceedingly good chance of success this year.

Thats not being arrogant but showing positivety, something I for one have been accused of not being in other seasons.

Well you must be calling the chairmen ect arrogant then because they want top 5, promotion and first round proper FA cup. Nothing less and Trotty knows this and im sure will do his best to obtain those objectives. Come sat we will have better idea as to what we will get.

i didnt go yesterday but it sounds as if we were pretty poor.but i recon our pre season has been ok.it is mainly to try different things and players.i like all real fans EXPECT success and will not settle for second best.if we are failing to deliver im sure many of us will say so.last season was terrible and surely no one wants that again. we only escaped another relegation by the skin of our teeth and i honestly believe that by some of us speaking our minds things were changed for the better. so come on dont settle for 2nd best we can win the league with the players we now have

Trotty must be wondering what he has let himself in for. He was "rewarded" at the end of last season by our chairman who heaped a whole load of pressure on him straight away by giving him only a year long deal to get us promoted and to the first round of the FA cup and a decent FA Trophy run. He has only been a manager for 5 minutes! After the three seasons we had all just endured maybe it is our chairman who is being unrealistic! We have on paper a starting eleven capable of beating anyone in this league but we all know they wont play well every week and that there will be injuries/suspensions that will expose what is currently a thin squad. We all want success but we still have a club and we are playing at our true home again, things that we were close to never having again. I want success as badly as anyone especially after the lean recent times but I will also be keeping my feet firmly on the ground and will be taking nothing for granted. A season without struggle, maybe a top half finish and some decent football will be a breath of fresh air and will do for me. Stability first, then success.

I cant see how its being unrealistic by anyone to move on at this stage. Stability has been made. We had a bad game yesterday,we aired our views.I doubt anyone is counting any chickens & Trotty has our backing.Cant see a problem.Half way through the season an assessment will probably be made but for now its all systems go.We watch with interest & with hope this season. But confidence is higher than in previous seasons.Thats good!

But we are most definately not home & hosed by a long chalk. There are too many clubs in a similar position to us.Its going to take hard graft to achieve anything but hopes are high that we will.

Well said, just about says it all for me. I could repeat many criticisms about yesterday, it wasnt very confidence inspiring was it. However, look how far the club has come recently, there's plenty to be optimistic about compared to the last couple of seasons. I'm looking forward to a good steady season.

All in all, i think many of the pre-season results reflect how you need to take your chances, make your own luck, and how games can turn so easily.

Reading reports, it looks as though we should have lost 4-1 at Dover ,but drew.

We lost 2-0 at Erith , but i interpreted reports that we should have won about 3-1.

In the one psf i saw, we beat Fisher 5-2 but easily could have been 3-0 down after 30 minutes.

It just shows how performances do not always reflect results(i'd say in only 50% of cases does the performance reflect the result;and therefore what a frustrating game it can be at times

returning to the latter theme of this thread re:expectations, i endorse wholeheartedly Mike Perry's post.

My own expectations are somewhat lower, and whilst longing for promotion, i'd settle for top 10, no relegation worries so we can enjoy the season ,and a good FA Cup and trophy run.

Always want/hope to do better, but that would be an ok season by my book.

I must admit ,in mid May after the glut of signings ,and when we still had a squad incl.BB,PG and Hasim, i raised my own expectations ,and thought it could really happen this season, but after a few of them have for whatever reason decided to go elsewhere and we have not replaced, i have managed to bring myself back down to earth.

I guess it was for a few weeks being a bit like having all your christmas presents lined up,and then snatched away from you.Did get a bit deflated in July

Like Mike Perry, i do think it unecessary pressure for the chairman to be wanting a top 5 position from RT in his first season, especially if we are, for whatever reason, unable to replace BB,PG and Hasim with similar quality.

AS RT said, we will encounter defeats this season as it is such a tough league, and our start away to Worthing is a pretty tough start, although as such, against a regular top half team , it should give an early realistic pointer to our real ability in this league.

I note that quite a few posters above are really expecting play-off places, which is great, but many of the same posters are 'promoting' local/youth players to enhance the squad.

Imo, the two are incompatable.

You can afford the odd younger player in the team on occasions , but as it seems was exposed on saturday, too many at once against a reasonably experienced side will result in the team being overun.

We are playing in a mans league in winter months and you need guys who have been there before and can tough it out .

It can be done with younger/local players(and has been with Ramsgate) but only after a few seaons together and starting at a much lower level than Ryman Premier.

We are at that level now, and the Chaiman and manager are seeking instant success.

As we are now 3-4 quality players short , i'm keeping my expectations back to top 10 ;but again as was posted above, that in itself is progress
