I havent been impressed with our last three psf i know Trotty has been trying different players + tactics. Just would have thought being our last before the real stuff begins, we would have had our preferd line up. Guese we will see come next sat.

Very impressed with Wildes. A big strapping old fashioned centre half, who I would say would push Donovan for a place. A big quicker too, although that is not difficult!

Skinner off after a shocking elbow in the face to a Dover player. Only a yellow but was taken off anyway. Good decision.

Manny and Ellis had no service first half.

Nor did Danny and James second.

McKimm was poor all through apart from his goal.

Wasn't much better last week either.

Passing was awful from him.

Hogarth or whoever did nothing and seemed scared to go near the ball.

We are badly missing Lee for set pieces and that telling through ball.

We were lucky to get a draw I thought.

Margate will have to do better than this if they want to challenge for promotion. We didn’t have a single shot on target until McKimm’s superb individual goal in the last minute.

The first half was fairly even, with Dover creating slightly the better opportunities, although neither side managed a shot on target. In the second half Dover looked great, forcing several good saves from SCS and scoring with a lovely rocket header by Cloke.

Defensively we looked ok, but struggled to defend corners and crosses and looked a bit slow against the speedy Chase, especially when he and Tyne combined. On the plus side our giant Wildes was very good with defensive headers, and showed some skill with his feet too. Our MOM for me. Didn’t see what he can do in the opponents’ box as we did not win any corners.

SCS made some good saves and showed good judgment in coming out etc.

Midfield was the problem I thought; we just couldn’t seem to turn possession into anything. We needed Protheroe to take charge and make things happen. We missed him badly. I would have said McKimm didn’t do much, but if he can score goals like that regularly he is well worth his place. Wisker showed good skill at times.

Up front Remy and Omoyimni were anonymous in the first half, but although Hockton and Pinnock worked harder they didn’t get the service.

Overall not a disaster, but there’s a lot to do if we are going to be there at the end of the season. All credit to Dover, if they play like they did in the second half today they will be going up.

In the first half i didnt think Dover were that good but neither were we. The main worrying thing is that today we played mainly a side of fringe players and most of them did not show enough quality to battle for a first team place, so as far as i can see we are very weak in depth with our squad and it needs to be sorted out quickly otherwise when first team players get injured we do not have decent backup, apart from 2 or 3 players.

Not there i'm afraid, but sounds like this was exactly the game we needed.

From the postings-i read it was raining and maybe will give some justice to my waffling that youngsters all look great with the sun on their backs, but once conditions turn, its a different baal game and you need seasoned players out there.

Also shows how much we miss Protheroe(and without the likes of gradley to replace him)

Some good lessons learnt today by sounds of things.

Just what was required

A bit late in the day, but sounds like Chris Wildes is exactly who we need-anyone know where he is from ?

I assume Luke Young was in fact Luke williams.

I quite rated Remy-had a knack of scoring goals.

How did the full backs perform against dovers Chase and walker who are supposedly a bit quick and may have tested our full backs

[color:"blue"] Would this be Chris Wildes by any chance?

Maidenhead Utd - Chris Wild - Towering centre back signed from Braintree in January 2006 on a contract to the end of the season. Chris began his career at Leyton Orient, but following loan spells at Farnborough and Hayes in 2003, he signed for Harlow. Moved onto Grays, Redbridge, Heybridge Swifts and St Albans before joining the Iron in the summer of 2005.

I agree with all that Dave. Couldnt have put it better myself. Except to add a few things. Firstly Remy is just a waste. No,he didnt probably get the service but there were times when he had the chance to do something with ball & didnt. For a tall guy his heading ability is also atrocious.
Manny playing in the wrong position i.m.o. He is,to me,an out & out old style winger & thats where we will get the most out of him.
Wildes apparently is only 17 yrs old & impressed. Would like to know where he has come from.He will surely be pushing for Donovans place.
Agree, apart from the goal that McKimm was dire today but it WAS a well taken goal.Others to impress me today were Scott in goal & Aaron on the wing when he came on. All the others were really awful.
Dover certainly werent the force of Wednesday night that was evident. They did just enough however in the second half to have shaved it.Unluckily for them the victory wasnt to be.But the anti-climax after the Spurs game was to be expected I suppose. How we got a draw was beyong me.One real effort & one goal.
It wasnt the result today but the performance that was dreadful to say the least. Yes,we had reserves out there but they should be showing more so as to be ready for inclusion when the time arises. Wasnt impressed with Smith or Wisker. Both poor poor players & will have to step up an awful lot to get a place I should imagine. Wisker in particular was terrible. Cant pass or much else & fouls too much for my liking.
Donovan is so slow & clumsy & scares me everytime with his bad positioning play & slow "trying to get back" efforts. He would have been sent off in a league match for that tackle. Disgusting tackle I thought.
So many times today we were run ragged by the ball over the top.Continually losing out in that department. The whole defence apart from Wildes & without Oates & Trotty were a shambles at times.
A friendly with a reserve side yes, but I was expecting more from a team that has had ample time & practice to be able to put in a good performance. The first half was the worst 45 minutes I have witness for a long time from BOTH teams.
I too agree that the FIRST team should have been out there but can also understand the need to keep them safe from injuries. But are we going to wrap them all up in cotton wool during the season too?
Hope McKimm's & Jackson's little knocks dont prevent them from turning out on our first game. Todays efforts reminded me of last seasons efforts, pre-Trotty days & I was hoping things had changed for the better.Lets hope that now the real stuff is upon us we get that improvement we have seen on a few occasions so far.
From now on its "no more excuses".Its down to business now with a settled side.If that consistency in efforts & team selection isnt forthcoming quickly then & even with these better players we are going to struggle again.I have faith however this season that Trotty will get it right for the first & future league games.

Absolutely ridiculous if you virtually played 11 fringe players a week before the season starts.

Am I mistaken or didn't you play a lot of trialists in your last friendly?

So in your 1st league game your going to play 11 players who haven't played together for about 3 weeks?

If you get a couple of injuries a week before the season starts you should have fringe players who are capable of stepping in and doing a good enough job.

I reckon Trotty already knows his starting 11 for next Saturday. My guess is that he has been using the additional time to take a look at some other late-comers.

Skinner was taken off and Luke was ok but nothing special.
Dean came on and was steady.
I still don't know why he takes throw ins.
They only travel about 5 yards!!

WAtch him! He cant get his hands round the ball prpoerly. It always slips from his grasp. A point I brought up some months ago.

Chris Wild is 20 (21 in November) and has been on trial with Maidenhead and Basingstoke this preseason. He finished last season at Maidenhead as Peter says above. he came through the youth at Leyton Orient and spent a while at Grays.

My mistake GW (20yrs old not 17) or at least it was from the source I got the information off. That pic above is he without a doubt.
