Relocation

Thank you for that clear statement.

Why wasn't it put up before the Observer printed their article?

Looking at it from a supporter's point of view: the article appears in the paper and it appears that something is happening on the sly.

For the record, most people at the club know who's who on here, so I don't think we are hiding behind aliases. Just ask "Buzz" if you want to know who someone is.

For those of you that can't be bothered her it is:

I never cease to be amazed by those people who are very pleasant when you meet them face to face and particularly unpleasant thereafter on the message board of the website, when hiding behind a rather transparent alias. If anyone has anything to say to me, then they are welcome to say what they think to my face (ask Helen Christmas !!). I am not a person who will intentionally avoid an issue and for that reason, I am quite prepared to make a difficult decision if it is necessary and I am also quite willing to face any questions that are forthcoming at any time and particularly at the Fans Forum in January.

For the avoidance of doubt, may I confirm, to those who make inaccurate statements in blissful ignorance, that my Company William Verry Limited is a Building Contractor that wins its work normally by tender. We are not a Development Company and for those who do not know the difference, then please go and find yourself an education.

To put the record straight, may I confirm my understanding of the stadium relocation issue. The Council, via their Planning Department, are empowered to produce a 5 year plan which is currently up for renewal and this indicates possible schemes that could take place in the future and if I am deemed to be incorrect, then please ask Peter Lewis for confirmation. A possible ground relocation project was included in the last 5 year plan that was produced long before I was ever involved with the Club. I understand that the previous regime met with the Council and various Developers and possible sites were identified and hence the reason that this item was included in the last plan. The Council subsequently met last week to discuss the adoption of a new 5 year plan and I believe that this was picked up by the Observer and hence the report in the newspaper. I have personally no objection to the proposal being included in the plan, as it keeps our options open. If a new stadium was built, it would take years to complete and it would presumably be funded accordingly by Institutions, Grants or possibly in partnership with others.

Everyone is, I believe, aware of the problems associated with Clarence Park and these are not insurmountable at the moment. Yes, we do currently have a Conference Grading but we may not have in 2 years time when their criteria changes and ground capacity, for example, then could become an issue. We also currently have problems with the lease, insurances, local residents, car parking and the fact that the stand currently does not provide unrestricted viewing because of wooden columns.

To conclude, may I emphasise that we are not looking necessarily at relocating but merely at keeping the options open that were presented by the previous regime. The Council will give us the lead in this issue, as ultimately it will be their decision to “take back” Clarence Park and give the Club “a gentle push” in another direction. The Board of Directors have not even discussed this topic as yet and it is not likely to be on any forthcoming agenda in the immediate future

That could be interpreted in a threatening manner I'm sure.

Someone post that on the Aldersh#t message board and see what happens. £200,000 bill for another steward's jacket to hang up somewhere.

mr gibson should be setting an example for this club being the chairman & all & not telling the fans who turn up week in week out to support the saints that they need to go & get an education.that is absolutely disgraceful behaviour.i can't believe nobody else has any views on the matter.

I've got a view:

The chairman (that took over the club when we were in very dire straits I seem to remember - Does anyone else remember that?) is suddenly getting loads of abuse from yourself and JimmyN (yourselves whatever - couldn't give a toss), and others, and yet when he goes out of his way to put a helpful article on the website explaining things people start picking it apart and going on about the one small things he's said that is having a go at people. If I was the chairman, I'd have been a lot more p!ssed off by now at the reactions expressed on this board, and would have had a bit more of a go.

His point about getting an education was actually quite valid when you look at the rubbish people have been writing. Everyones happy to dish out the abuse (whether anonomously or not), but anything in return is blown out of all proportion.

Let him do his job. I'd rather have him (from what I understand a successful businessman) running the club than any other person that contributes to this board.

I disagree.

It seems there is a real lack of interaction between the fans and the board at the club, and I think that needs to be bridged. Maybe if Gibbo took some time to join us in the club-bar for a drink or two, like Mr Harding used to, he'd see that we are actually a good bunch of lads, and not the trouble-makers he seems to think we are.

It would also give us the opportunity to tell him what a crap idea moving to Park Street or Bricket Wood would be.

maybe he should, maybe he shouldn't... I'm not that interested

thats a problem between you and yours

I'm more interested in the stability of SACFC, which at the present time feel he's the best man for the job...

then again maybe Harding was better?

I'm pretty sure that not every club chairman "interacts" with the fans. I think that sometimes a gap between the two is a good thing - let him run the club. Maybe a bit more interaction between the players and the fans? surely that's just as important, make the players want to play for St. Albans City?

As for Harding, ever wondered that the reason for his interactivity with the fans was to try and disguise the real him?

I've noticed Gibbo in the bar a couple of times lately, at Basigstoke and Ford, so he is around, maybe someone should buy him a drink or two and discuss all the current issues with him.

The Gibbo/EFM thing has started badly and has got steadily worse. He doesn't seem to want to sort it out so maybe those involved should.

I don't have any real problem with Gibbo, the one time I spoke to him after Aylesbury I found him to have his head screwed on. I do wish he spoke to us all and then he'd realise we're not thugs or troublemakers (people like Robbo (RIP) and Steve Eames know all this) the accusations and press he writes before facts are known are damaging to the club and the releationship with the supporters.

I'm convinced there is nothing underhand about last weeks page 3 article, but now we're on this weeks page 3 article.

Hopefully he will join us in the bar for a drink after the Aldershot game (there is a party after all). I do thank him for saving the club and even though we all got on with Harding lets face it if he was still here we'd be scanning the fixture list (like we're doing on Jan 11th) looking for a game or going to watch rugby with GHA, as it happens we are 3rd in the league, only 7 points off the lead going into Christmas, I'd taken that in July, would you?

Prehaps our new years resulation should be on both sides to realise what we're all about, if we understand each other I'm sure we'd all realise that we're all pulling in the same direction.

If this happens maybe webbo will come to a game <img src="/forums/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
