Dover 2 Spurs 0

Well, I popped down to crabble and saw an entertaining game. Spurs fielded 5 first teamers inculding a couple of England players. An even game all round really but Dover took the honours & did themselves proud. They had some good chances in the first half but so did Spurs. Second half & Spurs stepped up couple a gears(quite obvious watching it). Then a 4 man substitution which took 4 of those 5 first teamers off.Things changed from there on. In the 81st & 89th minute Dover scored 2 goals. Second was most fortunate but overall, against a talented bunch of Tottenham players Dover were well worth the victory. Believe me the Spurs team out there tonight were no mugs & were all very good players. We have our work cut out for ourselves on Saturday. This was a very good all round performance from Dover tonight. I cant see them playing as well as this again but for tonight they were very good.

A crowd of 1301 saw this tonight & thats the way to repay the paying public by not only getting a good result but by playing well too. Thats the way to KEEP those fans coming.Thats the way to show them its worthwhile going again for them. All to often large home crowds go away disappointed but tonight was not one of those nights.Credit where its due, Dover did well, VERY well.

Huddlestone played for the first 70 minutes!

I'm not a Spurs fan but I was reliably told by a margate fan who IS a strong Spurs fan that the following ARE first teamers. Is he wrong?

Stalteri

Huddlestone

Gardner

Routledge

Ziegler

I make that 5 in all. A good turn out I thought.

Isnt Philip Ifil one too?

Apart from stalteri they were all fringe players last season mainly playing in the reserves and routledge was at loan to Portsmouth through out last season. Phil Ifil is a reserve player who was at loan at Millwall last season. Only 2 of those players will get regular first team appearances this coming season and that is Stalteri and Huddlestone and bear in mind apart from Gardner, Routledge and Ifil those players mentioned played in tottenham 2-1 win over Inter and we only had half first team regulars out there. Zeigler was at loan to Wigan all of last season aswell.

Routledge was on loan at Portsmouth for the second half of last season. I think he only played a couple of games for us.

I think the point the guys are making is that the Spurs XI, hitherto unbeaten in pre-season, began with five players who have appeared in the Premiership, never mind if they're regulars or not. This was therefore a very impressive result for Dover, so credit where it's due and well done to them.

But don't do it again. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

And heres a list of their reserves.

Dorian Dervite

Mark Yeates

Simon Dawkins

Stuart Lewis

Jacques Maghoma

Christopher Riley

Leigh Mills

Andrew Barcham

Kieran Mckenna

Charlie Daniels

Charlie Lee

Tommy Forecast

Robert Burch

Emil Hallfredsson

What you are saying is that those mentioned will NOT be playing in the first team this season.

So it seems the Spurs turnout was a crap turnout then! Is that what you are saying. These players you mention WERE or ARE premiership players though are they not?

AARH! I am sorry, I now see who it is apart from the Gate that you support. It now makes sense as to why you were so insistent on the victory for Dover over Spurs being watered down. Apologies for my ignorance there.Alex I wasnt putting down your "other" club in any way I was merely telling it how it was in my eyes.We have our work cut out for ourselves on Saturday if Dover play a similar game even with the top players we have. Lets hope they underestimate us after their victory over the Spurs XI eh?

I hope Dover play well ,give us a tough run out and beat us on saturday.

I still feel, that despite the Erith lapse, we need a rude awakening, and that the squad is much too thin, and maybe not quite as good as we are thinking. Its not too short, but a couple of quality players are lacking imo; and this needs to hit the management team in the face now; rather than at the Worthing game
