Haringey Borough Football Club

Devastating news to report I'm afraid from the Haringey Borough Website, yes it has actually been updated'. The hallowed Coles Park turf is not as yet ready for use, following er 'much close season work' and therefore the Club's two prestigious, and hugely lucrative, friendly matches against the two mighty Enfield Club's have had to be cancelled:

'Haringey Borough is extremely disappointed to announce the cancellation of their two prestige Friendlies against Enfield Town on Saturday 12th August and Enfield on Tuesday 15th. Although much close season work has been put into the Coles Park pitch it will clearly not be ready for use by then leaving the Club with no alternative but to forego what may well have been the most prestigious matches of the season against teams from a higher level in the pyramid'.

NeutralFan - Yes agreed although reading between the lines of the following extract from Enfield Town's Website they are incandescent about what has happened and I'm sure heads have rolled in the corridors of power at Coles Park with the pitch not being ready in time:

'Unfortunately this game is now off because of delays in work on the pitch, that's a real shame as we would have started our pre-season against the Club from the ground known as White Hart Lane and finished it actually in White Hart Lane itself. Anyway, there will still be the opportunity for Town fans to make their way to Coles Park for home Reserve games this season'.

I'm not quite sure what the reference to White Hart Lane is all about but I gather Enfield Town Reserves are groundsharing with Haringey Borough this season.

Er couldn't find a report from Haringey Borough's recent shock 2-1 friendly defeat at Buntingford Town on their Website, I wonder why. As luck would have it there was one on Buntingford's impressive site as follows:

Paul Attfield's team gained a second victory in a week against higher status opposition with a 2-1 victory at The Bury. There were many changes from the side that started Tuesday's game at St Ives but what is becoming evident is that Town will start this season's campaign with a strong squad after another good showing. Town again had to play this fixture on their second pitch due to the ongoing maintenance work on their main surface but the game was always played at a high tempo and was a thorough work out for both sides.

Town started the better and within the first ten minutes Conor De Lacy had a close range header cleared off the line and Ashley Townsend broke the offside trap but was thwarted by the agile visiting keeper. The visitors also had a good deal of possession and were a particular threat down the left hand side with some quick and tricky play that Town did well to shut down.

On 25 minutes Jan Stephens also broke a flimsy offside trap and the visitors were again in debt to their keeper who again blocked with his legs but the reprieve was short lived with Town taking the lead three minutes later when Alec Thomas lofted a neat ball over the visiting centre half to the well timed run of Ashley Townsend who drilled an unstoppable half volley into the net via the keepers hand. Haringey reacted well and were a particular threat from set plays and went close with a couple of close range unmarked headers that should have tested Damion Williamson's goal. They equalised three minutes before the break when Town were caught a little flat footed at the back as a simple ball to the front line found a forward who turned a hit a sweet 18-yarder past Williamson. The second half was a more stretched game with both teams getting plenty of possession to create chances but both defences worked hard to snuff out each other's advances. On 56 minutes Haringey hit the post from close range following a corner but like Tuesday's game at St Ives Town got stronger as the game went on and always looked likely to create the better chances. Alec Thomas and Conor De Lacy both narrowly missed the target and David Cain glanced a Jan Stephen's corner just wide minutes before he scored what proved to be the winning goal with six minutes left when he rose unmarked to head home another Stephens corner.

Folks - I hope you're all sitting down, wait for it, the Haringey Borough Website has been updated with the following and I even get a mention:

Borough start the competitive season by setting out on what used to be known as “the Road to Wembley” but which now seems more likely to end a good deal further West on Saturday 20th when we visit Bowers & Pitsea United of the Essex Senior League in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup Sponsored by E.ON. If we come through that test we will entertain Dunstable Town of the British Gas Business Southern League Midlands Division on 2nd September in the Preliminary Round. Unless the game with Bowers is a draw, in which case there would be a replay at Coles Park on Tuesday 22nd August, we will open our League campaign that evening with a visit from Royston Town, again assuming “The Crows” Saturday Cup-tie with Harwich & Parkeston is not a draw.

Borough’s next two matches after that will both be League games away from home – at Biggleswade United on Saturday 26th and at Broxbourne Borough on Tuesday 29th. Boroughs First Round opponents in the London Senior Cup will also be from the Essex Senior League as we have been drawn away to Romford, the match is likely to take place in early October. Success would see either Redbridge or Cockfosters vising Coles Park in the Second Round. In off the field developments we are pleased that our floodlights have been restored to full working order and now have an average Lux Value of 154. We are also hoping that the close season drainage work will have the desired effect of reducing the number of postponements over the coming season. There has been something of a minor exodus from Coles Park as our former Assistant Secretary Cliff Rhodes has left to take the Secretary's role at Kentish Town FC while erstwhile Reserve Team Coaches Clement Temile and Fernando Henriques have joined the same Club as Head Coach and Second Team Manager

respectively. We thank them for their efforts for us and hope they will enjoy success in their new environmentt. The Molten Spartan South Midlands League now has its own website from which up to date information can be gleaned; www.ssmfl.org

What do I know, and I have to put someone bottom and Haringey struggled last season like most seasons, and weren't too good in the games v us. But why draw attention to that, surely my choice of champions, my relatively low placing of Hertford and almost near dismissal of Chalfont and Kingsbury is of more interest. Also my low prediction for my own team

I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing Haringey Borough good luck this afternoon in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round clash at Essex Senior League Premier Division outfit Bowers and Pitsea. I look forward to reading the report on their Website this evening.

So you have read my predictions then, why don't you have a go or don't you know enough about the SSML Premier Divion for that, I could educate you and also tell you a bit about the SSML Premier Division too.

Folks - As yesterday's match report from the Bowers and Pitsea v Haringey Borough cup tie is still not on the Haringey Website almost 30 hours after the match I have located a, somewhat unorthodox, report from the Bowers and Pitsea site, I s'pose it will have to do:

A crowd of 66 watched Bowers & Pitsea FC progress to the FA Cup Preliminary round for the first time in seven years. Bowers took the early exchanges and looked to have Haringey Boro rocked with their attacking runs. 5 minutes gone and Dean Allen shoots just wide of the post. 7 mins Allen heads towards goal. 8 mins David White skips into the Boro box but his shot is tame. 15 mins Boro's Strina has a shot that Rob "Smallsy" Smalls has covered and watches fly over bar. 17 mins Chris Tucker goes down injured for the 2nd time in the game. Allen shoots and Boro's keeper, Mahmood saves well after good work from Anthony Reeve and Darren Ellis Luke Moore smashes rebound over bar. 21 mins Catania shoots wide of the Bowers goal after a good run by Bakare. 24 mins White takes a corner and Brad Davey jumps for ball, Robert Bangs puts it back in box and Davey shoots at goal. 28 mins Smallsy saves a Boro free kick with ease. 30 mins Davey puts in an excellent tackle to deny Kalu a goal. Allen with only the keeper to beat runs out of space and pitch. 39 mins Allen knocks ball onto Chris Stevens who is beaten to ball by keeper. 42 mins Tulloch heads wide of Bowers goal, 44 mins Moore volleys wide, 45 mins Allen free kick just over bar, White shoots and keeper saves. Half Time 0-0. 46 mins O'Connell shoots high after a mazy run at Bowers goal. 48 mins Stevens caught off side. 54 mins White to Davey who volleys at goal but it is cleared, Chris Tucker makes an good stop to deny Boro. 55 mins bangs booked, 57 mins Moore fires in free kick and Allen heads it very wide. Davey saves another certain goal. 61 mins Moore loses out to defender as he bears down on goal. 62 mins Bob Hardy gives away a free kick which is wasted. Bangs is replaced by Bill Mole. 65 mins Corner to Bowers taken by Moore to Davey to Mole to Allen who's shot is tame. 67 mins Shurety heads Allen header off Boro line - corner is wasted. 68 mins Hardy runs 3/4 length of pitch before being tackled. 72 mins Micheal Church replaces Hardy. Moore shoots at goal, scrambled away, Smallsy saves from Boro's White. 81 mins Smallsy saves well again and White tries an extravagant flick to open scoring for Boro but misses completely. 83 mins Smallsy is the busier of the two keepers and saves well again from Bakare. 89 mins Allen spins and scores to send fans delirious, 1-0 Bowers. O'Connell shoots wide for Boro. 90 mins with time running out and the fans pleading for the whistle Moore is tugged back in the box, penalty. Allen steps up to slot ball to keeper's left and make final score 2-0. Full Time 2-0. Team: Smalls, Hardy, Ellis, Davey, Tucker, Reeve, White, Bangs, Allen, Stevens, Moore. Subs: Church (used), Wickens, Connolly, B Mole (used). Man of The Match Brad Davey.

rhodes you must have been busy on the notepad saturday mate. thanks for posting it mate, makes good reading for us all. Great celebrations after the first goal, love it.

Paula - Check this out love, I've just had a reply from Smallsy at Bowers and Pitsea who thought I had typed the report up lol, quite honoured actually but he clearly doesn't realise I'm connected to Haringey Borough and would have preferred them to win for old times sake. What's Smallsy like, he seems like a diamond.
