Is Craig Holloway still classed as a Fleet player?

'...Fleet manager Liam Daish is delighted to have made the signing in view of the injury sustained by Craig Holloway which will keep him sidelined for most of the new season...'

This quote from the announcement on the signing of Lance Cronin, reads as if he has been signed as cover for Craig this season.

That then makes the 18

I think you'll find that Holloway never signed a contract for this season, partly because it was due for renewal after most of the other players who weren't released & partly because the Club wouldn't offer it until his injury situation was resolved. So, he isn't in the squad, not being a contracted player.

However, all the talk seems to suggest that he's still regarded as a Fleet player by the management, which presumably means that as soon as he can show that his injury is no longer making it impossible for him to play, then he'll be offered a contract & become, officially, one of the squad.

Alternatively, I could have misunderstood the whole scenario & - as the lovely children at the school where I teach would say - have been chatting sh*t.

Whether it is 16, 17, or 18 it is worryingly 'light'. Can bearly put out a team with the full number of substitutes.

Looks like the team will be heavily dependent on loan players again this season, particularly if there are any further injuries, thinking of those players that are somewhat injury prone, or indeed suspensions.

Haven't we been here before, this summer?

Budget slashed. Feared a squad full of nobodies.
Instead we have a small but (on-paper) talented squad.
Daish has said the loan players will be needed throughout the season to supplement the squad.

Please feel free to do something positive, like stick a few quid in the coffers, rather than just sit back and assume that we have the spending power of a Championship side......go on....empty that Post Office account ! You know it makes sense.

Cheers,

Out of interest, cos I can't remember, did we have that many more than 18 this time last season?

17 players does seem a bit light, if we had more of course some of our regular posters would be moaning about paying full-time wages to players just to sit on the bench. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

On the basis that you can't have what you can't afford I certainly agree that a small squad of quality players is better than a large squad of less talented players however a couple of injuries could see us down to the bare bones.

I think we need another defender and another midfielder.

From what I saw on friday....

If we keep away from too many injuries...... and yes I know Charlie is likely to pull a hamstring sitting in a chair! Our squad looks a good deal stronger than last year.

Its all down to luck really.

That and some decent loan signings by L.D, and he didn't do too bad last season on that front.

For my Two pennies worth i think he has done excellently to sign who we have and agree it looks like a decent squad on paper. I have yet to see us play - been stuck in NY for near a month but will be back for Tuesdays game and look forward to our first win!? presuming draw at 'fortress rec'. Looking forward to hopefully an increased and excited crowd if we can grasp a few early wins! up the fleet and all that!!

I agree that the players LD has signed are shaping up well, but the Artist formerly known as WVN IS correct - 17/18 players signed including 3 keepers is a very small squad for this level.

Having said that, if any of the present PASE team get registered to play in the Conference, unlike most last year, at least they can fill the bench if required.
