Players let go,

Yohance Lewis

Leon Antione

Michael Beggs

Gary Henty.

Seb Scoberg has been given a further opportunity to earn a place.

With just 3 of our first choice team starting yesterday (DC is very close to making it 4 imo) it was a good opportunity for people to show, and earn a place into our squad.

I spoke with Matt this Morning, and he confirms that we are still looking for two players, so far the trialists haven’t worked out, so he is targeting specific players in positions that he feels will strengthen our squad.

The release of Gary Henty is somewhat of a shock, but it does show that Matt is not afraid to make tough decisions when he feels its right for the team. The benchmark to becoming a Billericay player in 2006/7 has now taken a big step up.

Good luck Gary, and thank you <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/applaus.gif" alt="" />

If the standard we're looking for is players who will be pushing for a place in the starting XI then none of that is a surprise. Antoine wouldn't get ahead of Nathan in my opinion, likewise Lewis and Collins or Hodges. Henty's been an excellent player for us, but realistically would only play in the event of injury... and unfortunately he's more likely to get injured than most.

Gazz, I don't think Seb has been picked over Gary, Seb needs to earn a place and he will be given equal opportunity. (he joined later than the others)

If he shines, and shows that he is the winger we need, then god luck to him. If he's not of the required high standard, then I guess he will move on.

Yohace did have a good game tree, but is he better than we have already? That was the question being asked of the players yesterday.

I am suprised you released Lewis as well...

I thought against Burnham he has a reasonably good game, and certainly tried to cause me a lot of problems...

But hey-ho... Im young, so I can learn to judge people a little better... <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I'm not too surprised about any of the players being released, but obviously the release of Henty is the most contoversial.

One of Henty's best assets was his versatility but in truth we have players that can cover every position now and players in the reserves who could step up for the odd game here or there should the need arise. Last season wasn't Gary's best and Matt obviously feels that the money can be spent better elsewhere. That's his prerogative.

I am sure that some people will question the decision in the same way as team selection, choice of formation or substitutions are questioned from time to time but that's football, it's all about opinions and ultimately it's a decision that Matt has made that he feels will benefit our club.

Gary has been a tremendous servant to our club and I am sure everyone will wish him well. I'm sure that he'll find another club soon.

TC, I totally understand and perhaps I didn't put my point over that well... Henty's gone...fine, it's sad but we move on...

I'm not going to knock Seb either and I hope the guy does the business, I really do but in the two games he's played, it'll have to be a 100% turn around...

I'm sad to see that Gary Henty has been released. Long service at a club is a rarity in todays game and given GH's versatility, I'm also a little suprised he's been shown the door, but such is football. I know I can speak on behalf of quite a few supporters who don't post on this forum, that they wish you all the best for the future. Thank you for the past seven years of wearing the Blue shirt.
