Gibson's motivation for a new stadium

Am I alone in having doubts about Gibson’s motivation for a new stadium?

First of all why do we have to move? We’re in the Ryman League, with a Conference graded ground. Clarence Park is already good enough for the level that we play at and the level above. A new ground is NOT essential Mr. Gibson.

Second, the Council supported us to stay at Clarence Park by giving planning permission for all the work that was done three years ago. Why throw it all away?

Third, it’s not too far from the City centre, within easy walking distance for most and adjacent to the station that has a large car park unused when City normally play (Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings). The council’s officer’s report deemed many of the sites unsuitable because of green belt, poor road and rail and proximity to housing.

Fourth, there is plenty of room within the existing site as we have a very wide pitch. Plenty of space for a new stand. There is no reason why we couldn’t open up access from York Road between the sub-station and the club shop for a new car park area if the pitch moved over towards the Cola stand.

Fifth, Bricket Wood and Park Street are miles away from our fans traditional base.

Sixth, Gibson says that we’re losing £1500 a week. Is this deja-vu? Surely he should be concentrating on getting our finances in order rather than chasing some flamboyant £4 million scheme that we have no money for.

Seventh, the article mentions hotels and conference facilities. Who will own them? Gibson, William Verry or the football club?

Eighth, I want to see the club progress, but believe it can be achieved at Clarence Park. A possible relocation of the club must not be used for some cosy housing development deal with Rialto for the benefit of others. What does Gibson do for a living again?

We need to all learn from what happened to the likes of Maidstone, Walthamstow, Enfield, Wealdstone, etc. City fans - ask the right questions, don’t be led over the cliff like lemmings.
