Holloway out for season and purcell signs

Recommended Posts

Grays have released Nicky Eyre, he was a decent keeper, although he's trialling at Rushden.

In fairness to WVN/Quethingyummy, it'd be a brave manager at any level that would blood an untested young keeper without any sort of back-up. Just because he's been given a full-time contract doesn't mean he deserves a start, it means he's a prospect that for his own good and the good of the team, should likely be introduced gradually.

Imagine if he had a complete nightmare start, what that would do to his confidence.

This is a nightmare situation.

I actually agree with WVN!!!!!!

My guess is that Mott has been given a contract with a view to giving him the odd game to give him experience. I've never seen him play either but he must have potential if we want to keep hold of him. That isn't to say he will be the best man for the job at the start of the season.

However, if the manager thinks he is up to it, thats fine by me.

I see the change of name hasn't brought about a change of attitude, never play anyone who isn't experienced eh.
Arsenal would have kept their unbeaten record if you where manager of Everton Mr Van Nistelroy/Saha/Carrick (delete as applicable) you would never have played an untried 16 year old.

I don't know how good Mott is and I suspect you don't either but he must have something or he would not have been given a contract. One thing is definately true, he will remain inexperienced as long as he isn't picked.

As usual what I said is being deliberatly 'skewed'.

Yes of course the only way to gain experience is by being given the opportunity to play......but playing in goal is a unique position and playing an inexperienced goalkeeper has risks that would not apply to any other position on the field.

No doubt you are referring to a 16 year old by the name of Rooney. Had he been a goalkeepr there is no way he would have got the opportunities that he was given at such an early age.

Either way from your comments it would seem that you are prepared to put at risk potentially a good start to a new season, just to give Mott some experience. If he is up to the job, his chance will come and a season on the bench will do him no harm wahtsoever. It will give him the experience of being involved at Conference level. But straight into the first team, at the start of the season....NO!

Ooooh the irony, I love the way you talk about your comments being skewed and then get your own skewer out.

I didn't say I would play Mott I merely pointed out that unlike you I would not write anyone off without the benefit of knowing whether they could play or not.

Funnily enough Lance Cronin who played in goal against the Urchins played in the Crystal Palace first team as a 17yr old at a slightly higher level than the Conference. I wonder if his manager, Trevor Francis was willing to give an inexperienced youngster a chance because he himself had famously made his debut in the top flight at the tender age of 16....its a funny old game.

lance cronin played for crawley the other day on trial.

just looked on crawley's website now its back online and some of the players they have signed are quite good. after all the bad things that have gone on down there it seems that they have managed to get some decent players despite being in administration

On the subject of 'keepers, today's Messenger reports that Daish tried, unsuccessfully, to bring in Darren Randolph (played against us for Accy at their place last season) on loan once he'd heard about the severity of Craig's injury.
