Holloway out for season and purcell signs

Recommended Posts

taken from the BBC, not good news if true and george purcell is a good signing remember seeing him for Gills reserves year or 2 ago.

Gravesend and Northfleet keeper Craig Holloway could miss the whole season with a cruciate knee injury.

The 21-year-old was the club's first choice keeper for the majority of last season after signing from Southend in August 2005.

The former Arsenal trainee's absence is a major blow ahead of the start of the Conference season on 12 August.

Meanwhile, Gravesend have added Gillingham midfielder George Purcell to their ranks.

Liam Plaease sign a keeper or get one on a season long Loan

I imagine that's why he's been running the rule over various different faces in goal!

Alas, Luke McShane is now number two keeper at Peterborough so I doubt we'll be seeing him again.

I'm afraid that it's all true, except the part about us signing Craig from Southend, we signed him from Farnborough.

Nobody complained when we kept Steve McKimm on after an identical injury, so I see no reason why they should do so with Craig.

Whether he has signed or not, we need two fit keepers so getting another one in now is probably Liam's priority.

Is Mott good enough for the No 1 Jersey?

I've not him play any games but there seems little point signing PASE lads on full-time terms if they are not given the opportunity to prove themselves when situations like this arise.

Why not give him a couple of games to show what he can do and stick another young goalkeeper on the bench? The Club can always bring in an experienced keeper, as happened with Luke McShane, if things don't workout after a couple of games.

Luke Moore seems to be steadily improving since graduating to the First team. I'd like to see more hungry, young players coming through but you've got to give them an opportunity! In fairness to Liam he does seem willing to do this to some extent.

As Craig hasn't signed, and presumably from what Dave Holden is inferring is that the Fleet will still keep him in some capacity, is this covered by some sort of insurance?

As I am completely unfamiliar with the complexities of players who suffer long term injuries.

Having a player unavailable for a season, how does this affect the size of Liams' squad? bearing in mind he has recently stated that he has all but reached his budget limit.

Nice avatar Stu.

In amongst the bad news about Craig I missed the good news about George Purcell, welcome George and good luck to you fella.

I heard that great things were expected of George at a much higher level of football than the Conference until he suffered a serious injury so now he has recovered lets hope he can regain his old form.

With all due respect to Mott, you have to be joking!!!

The goalkeeping position is far to important a position to risk playing someone with so little experience. Its fair enough having him on the bench as a substitute, but Daish really needs to bring someone in with experience, and quickly. Otherwise it looks like the first time the defenders will have any opportunity to get used to playing with a 'new' keeper behind them will be at Aldershot.

All league games are obviously important, but the first two or three league games are arguably some of the most important of the season. They set out the stall for the season, if they go well they are a launch pad in terms of confidence, both for players and supporters etc. etc.

Yes, by all means give Mott a run out in some of the reserve team friendlies, but certainly not in the first team in the first games of the season.

If further evidence is required look what happened when Kerr was given the position between the sticks at the start of last season.

The comparison between Kerr and Mott is hardly a fair one, since the former has/had far more first-team experience than the latter. Anyway, our 'keeper at the very start of last season was Holloway - if you recall, he got injured towards the end of the first half in the season's opening game.

Besides, Kerr's displays towards the end of last season were competent enough to show that his early-season troubles were merely a blip.

Me ol' mate Kev Pressman is at a loose end at the moment...but maybe a bit of a long way to travel for him, or maybe bring Yorkshire Dunx out of retirement ( he likes travelling !)

Cheers,

I see the change of name hasn't brought about a change of attitude, never play anyone who isn't experienced eh.

Arsenal would have kept their unbeaten record if you where manager of Everton Mr Van Nistelroy/Saha/Carrick (delete as applicable) you would never have played an untried 16 year old.

I don't know how good Mott is and I suspect you don't either but he must have something or he would not have been given a contract. One thing is definately true, he will remain inexperienced as long as he isn't picked.

Mott maybe not be experienced as say Holloway, Kerr or any other keepers but he is a good keeper. I saw him play a number of times for our youth side and Reserves last season and definatly has the potential to become a first team keeper. Probably down to his lack of experience of Conference football could be a bit daunting at first but hopefully he has a bright future with us.
