GRS67
Rhodes, do you write articles for the match programe yourself? I am hoping to be able to contribute articles for the Edgware programme this season. Maybe you can give me some help / pointers on what to do. You can reply either here or in a pm, cheers. Lato
Gavin, he probably is!!! however as a former programme editor I can say that I welcomed anything that anyone was willing to contribute as it made a change from the usual garbage I came out with and most of it was original claptrap apart from visiting clubs histories (although I have been known to doctor those!). It was always nice to have a fans view of things be it players, performances or great previous games. Obviously given that the match programme is often regarded as an official voice (Note to all programme editors - PUT A DISCLAIMER IN IT saying that the thoughts and views expressed in the programme are not necessarily those of the club)you might have to take care as to what you write. Your best bet is to find out who all your programme editor is and ask him or her if they want any articles and if so what sort of thing, then just go for it and good luck. Rhodes
Hi folks, nice to be missed, perhaps I should 'employ' Paula as my Secretary, I haven't got enough money to pay a wage but perhaps other ways of payment could be discussed. Yes Gavin I will be happy to help although Lato seems to have beaten me to it with his sound advice, I used to do Haringey Borough's programme as I think I mentioned and will be doing Kentish Town's this season. It is very much a labour of love and I spent hours on it leading up to a home game for very little thanks however I'm of the old school whereby a programme is sacred and 'an official voice' of the Club as Lato also mentioned so the more effort that goes into the better as far as I'm concerned. Rhodes
Paula - Yes I know, that's what I love about you, you're certainly a girl, sorry woman, of many talents. Gavin - Further to your request I will PM you my home address so you can send me an Edgware programme and I can look at the format, then I'll send you some ideas, I collect programmes so would like a look at yours anyway. I won't put my address on here for all to see as I might get hate mail particularly from the likes of Potters Bar Town and the guys who seem to have a bee in their bonnets about Takumi Ake for some reason. GRS67
I have asked Edgware's press Secetary who produces the programme, and he is happy for me to help out. I am going to have a chat to him and see what we can come up with.
Rhodes
Gavin - I have PM'd you my home address so you can forward a programme, it would have been handy if one was produced for the Wingate and Finchley game last Saturday but the Biggleswade United one on the 19th will be fine, are you going to be contributing to that. Will there be the opportunity to put photographs in the programme, I plan to put colour ones in ours which is quite labour intensive but worthwhile, I assume your press Secretary will be doing the match reports but I suppose you could always help him out as four hands are better than two. I also try to put a lot of info in about the away team as opposed to just the standard requirement of history and pen pictures, I try to get hold of an up to date team photo or any action shots although now I'm operating in the SSML Division 1, as opposed to the Premier Division, it's unlikely Club's will be innovative in that department, well apart from Hoddesdon Town that is. GRS67
Colour pics!!!! WOW, will you have a colour cover? and will you print the teams on the backpage?. Edgware have the same cover for every game and it does not list the opponents or date <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> a couple of seasons back it did, and it was a nice cover with some old pics of the team down the years. There is Never any pics in the programme, not even pen pics, there was one last season, a small one of our striker, that was it. The pages are made up with Edgware's history in every programme , and some bits and bobs, but on the whole not a great read. If you have colour or even pics in your programme, then there is excellent to say the least. How much will the club be charging? What kind of crowds are you expecting? GRS67
Gavin - I have PM'd you my home address so you can forward a programme ... I have not got a pm:(
Rhodes
Gavin - You should have that PM now. Yes I put a lot of time and effort into the programme as does AWK at The 61FC but it is worth it and AWK recently won the 2nd Division programme of last season award, we hope to win an award this season but it will be difficult as long as Hoddesdon Town are producing about 100 pages, albeit with no colour photographs, and they have won their divisional and the overall award for the last six season. We will either charge £1 for our programme or include one in the admission price of £5 or £6, we will have the same pre-printed cover for every game with the league sponsor 'Molten' on the back, the team sheet will therefore be inside but I don't think that's the end of the World. If you can make it for our game with Brache Sparta on 23 August you'll see it or I'll post you one.
AWK
It certainly does take a lot of time and effort but the players and management do appreciate it. If you are looking for an article to add Gavin then why not do a SSML Premier Division round up. I know Stan sends out a good one for all the leagues but i always do my own Division 2 one, adding more information (how the goals were scored, statistics etc). It can be quite hard in Div 2 as not all the goalscorers are given in the bulletin but with the information available for the Premier Division, as well as decent match reports on the teams websites you could do an excellent article for the programme. Rhodes
AWK - When I did the programme at Haringey I didn't feel that the players did appreciate the effort that went in and it really used to p me off when they left them lying around the dressing room amongst all the mud so they couldn't be put back into stock as it were, that is just ignorance and a lack of respect. I appreciate though that although the Haringey players were on the whole great guys (particularly Takumi) they are possibly different animals to that of other teams in the league who care about their Club and Community because that is all there is in the 'village' or 'town' such as St Margaretsbury, Langford or Tring, afterall what else is there to do in those sort of places on a Saturday afternoon. Even the Management and Club hierarchy at Haringey didn't really understand that a football programme is a thing of beauty and something to be cherished, like a good Woman for example, and they often ridiculed the lengths I went to. We both know the score being programme editors and of the old school brigade.
GRS67
I was going for to write articles more on the club itself. I would like to do an away report with a difference, ie, write about the ground, the fans, the teabar etc etc. Put some funny annidotes in as well. The first article I have typed out is regarding the petition I set up to save the white lion, and the response I receieved from fans up and down the country. I would also like to do a pen pic section in the programe with a question and answer ie, fave team etc fave whatever lol. Does it cost the club more money to print small pictures in black and white? AWK
I like the away report idea Gavin, I know the likes of Tranmere and Leicester do that sort of thing and they always make a good read. Rhodes, I remember reading an article once saying that programme editors normally dont get credit for there work because people (supporters/players etc) dont realise the amount of work and effort that goes into it, unfortunately it looks like this is the case for you and it does sound like you are better off at Kentish Town from what you have put on here mate. Rhodes
AWK - It's interesting you should say that and you are not the first to do so, there are some strange goings on at Haringey Borough which I have yet to get to the bottom of but I will and the SSML hierarchy need to carry out some sort of investigation, they should be a Conference Club at the very least due to the catchment area they're in, and half a mile from their illustrious neighbours who they refuse any help from, yet their Directors don't want progress and this has been going on for years. Kentish Town welcomed me on board with open arms when I left Haringey and have given me a free role to help them out, they will be an FA Charter Standard Club within a year and in the SSML Premier Division next season, having their own ground, preferably in their home Borough of Camden will also be sorted sooner rather than later. GRS67
and in the SSML Premier Division next season, having their own ground, preferably in their home Borough of Camden will also be sorted sooner rather than later. ... Do you realy think Kentish Town will go up this season? how many go up from div 1? just one? As for a ground, that would be great, but is it really a posibillity? AWK
Sounds like you have a good future at Kentish Town Rhodes. Of course I can only comment on what you have said on here about Haringey, but stuff like them turning down friendlies with Tottenham is just bizarre and as they dont seem to appreciate your efforts, either on the web site or programme then you are better off elsewhere. Gavin, two teams can normally get promoted, and i assume that this will be the case this season, subject to their ground being acceptable for the Premier Division.
Rhodes
AWK - Thanks for the vote of confidence, bizarre is certainly the right word to use to describe the goings on at Haringey Borough and turning down financial help such as the lucrative friendly with Spurs is only the tip of the iceberg. According to the league rules, which I've downloaded from the excellent new SSML Website, should one of the top two Club's in Division 1 not be eligible for promotion to the Premier Division due to ground criteria then the third placed Club will be promoted. This is good news for us as a 'safety net' but to answer Gavin's question I definitely think we will go up this season as either Champions or runners up.
