Just a quick note to say that I've just added a new player's memories questionnaire to the site...

...might interest anybody who watched Margate in the 70's or who used to see Thanet lose heavily to certain clubs regularly in the 80's.

 

Meanwhile if you don't whose birthday it was yesterday then you're clearly not getting your daily dose of 'On this day', admittedly the close season isn't the page's strong point but there's always something there.

Just read about gregs. certainly an eye for the goal. I think he was our best finisher of all time and what he could have been like in abetter team goodness knows. Nice one jeff.

Great update Jeff - certainly brings back memories - Good to see Brian has done so well for himself - 51 years and retired in Marbella - some good win bonuses in those days !!

Nice to see those photos of Laurie T - so sad that he died earlier this year.

Glad 'the usual suspects' enjoyed Brian's memories, it was good to hear from him although I only remember him as an opposition player who always seemed to score at least once against us.

I remember fondly the pairing of Brian Gregory and Carl Gilbert. They were Margate's answer to Toshack and Keegan (even down to suspect hair cuts)

Goals seemed to come constantly with the ball up to Carl who nodded it down for Brain to bang them in......pure magic. The sight of Carl without his teeth in scared us behind the goal let alone the opposition keepers.

Thought carl gilbert could only head the ball poor on the ground and often unfit but i did not see too many off his games.
