It is a digital video recorder. We have digital cable, and can record things and store up to 40 hours of programming at a time. It also does a continuous 2 hour digital recording so that you are able to pause and rewind television if you want to leave the room, or miss something and want to see it again. You can copy what you record if you hook it up to something else, but doesn't actually make a hard copy of it otherwise.

The next moan is this one only records one channel at a time where the other one would record two simultaneously, while we watched a third channel. Now I have to call the cable company and see if they will sort it out.
