Only the champions will be promoted!!!!

Recommended Posts

I found out yesterday that only the champions of the SSML Prem will be promoted. I heard that the three teams going up this season only happened due to the changes in various divisions of the pyrimid.

That said, its going to be a VERY competitive league and Edgware ARE going to have to win it to go up.

Ok, found on this TK site, if you look at the current league tables, it says this..

"There are 10 promotion positions available from the 14 step five leagues.

Only one team from each league. 1st and 2nd positions only.

If more than 10 eligible teams then playoffs to decide"

It has the top two highlighed and says 'maybe promoted" ......

In a nutshell, the top club in Step 5 Leagues goes up unless it fails to meet the ground grading standard (or doesn't want to be promoted). In that case, promotion is offered to the runners-up. If they can't/won't be promoted, there will be no promotion from that League.

That said, you never know when the FA will move the goalposts again.

Potters Bar Town to the rescue again, thanks. It seems that Hillingdon Borough and Hanwell Town were both somewhat fortunate to gain promotion to Step 4 last season along with Champions Oxford City in what was also a competitive division, I think even fourth placed Harefield United were in the running for a promotion spot and either declined or the goalposts were moved hence their 'favourites' tag this time around. Yes Edgware will have to win it to be sure of going up but then 20 teams will be of the same opinion.

Don't you mean Edware will have to win it to still not be sure of going up?

Horace - Well no if what Potters Bar Town says is true, and I have no reason to doubt him as his information is always second to none, then clearly Edgware Town will have to finish as champions to go up to Step 4 or finish second and hope for their sake that London Colney or Holmer Green win the league as they will not be able to meet Step 4 ground grading criteria. Unfortunately that will mean Gavin loses his tenner but at least you will be promoted.

But, "There are 10 promotion positions available from the 14 step five leagues", so if all league champions get the grading, not all may be promoted.

Having said that, in all likelihood there will be an additional step 4 league in 2007-08.

It's probably unlikely that all 14 Champions of the Step 5 leagues will get the grading but if so then something is sure to come out in the wash, it usually does. There was a letter in the Non League paper on Sunday as follows: 'Restructuring has been good for Non League but it is in danger of being sidetracked in an increasingly bitter squabble over North Midlands sides. FA Leagues Manager Mike Appleby warns that it might be better to abandon plans for a sixth Step 4 division rather than force or cherrypick sides to fill it'.

It's interesting to look back on the posts Gavin made at the start of the season and he's certainly not the mug everyone seems to think he is, he was spot on with this post and that's why I have a lot of time for him. Having said that though I wonder what would have happened if Harefield United had finished top, I'm sure they would have found some sort of excuse not to go up and Edgware would have still been promoted as runners up.

If Harefield had finished top, Edgware would have been considered for promotion as the only club in the top 2 with a valid application plus ground grading. What is the point you are trying to make, in your "honest Rhodes, I'm not spiteful, bitter or twisted" way? Why have you taken it upon yourself to libel Harefield by claiming that they were trying NOT to get promoted?

Horace - I'm not libelling Harefield in the slightest, Browndog started it all and it's strange he hasn't come back to deny claims that his Club don't want promotion and enjoy being in the comfort zone of Step 5.
