Theres ONLY 1 KEVIN COOPER

Thats a tremendous record. Saw him play at our place for Smugs last season and even we knew of his reputation. Must admit he was disappointing on the night and didn't look interested but that was only one game.

Had a bad season for him - unable to train because of work + wrong club - he's back home now - SSML Premier watch out!

Thought Hertford Town fans might be interested in this match report from when they visited Oxford City in the 2002/2003 season I think it was. I see that the great Kevin Cooper played a part in the proceedings but didn't seem to get much of a look in:

Oxford City put their financial worries behind them with a 3-0 victory over Hertford in Ryman Division 1 North at Court Place Farm on Saturday (Sept 21). After storming into a 2-0 advantage in the first nine minutes, City, who announced cutbacks last week, were always in command. Although Town came more into it after the break, they were thankful for a series of lucky escapes which saved them from a much heavier defeat.

Straight from the kick-off, Nando Perna tested Chris Fitkin, and City went ahead in the fifth minute when Jamie Charles had a shot blocked and the ball fell to Shaun Wimble, who despatched a 20-yard drive into the far corner. Four minutes later, Justin Lee crossed perfectly to the far post where Martin Brown headed No 2. With Charles leading the attack in fine style, City continued to create chances and after Robert Cruse had sent a good effort over, Charles latched on to a through ball to lob over Fitkin, only for the ball to bounce up and hit the crossbar. John Taylor headed off the line before the break, with City's two-goal advantage poor reward for their efforts. Steve Benbow made a brave save at the feet of Kevin Cooper, but Andy Smith and Charles went close for the home side, before they finally got a third in the 65th minute. Perna and Ben Cogger combined to set up Charles, whose low left-foot drive gave Fitkin no chance for a richly deserved debut goal. Town kept going, but it was City who nearly got a fourth with ten minutes left. Lee found Cogger, who rounded Fitkin, only to shoot wide from an acute angle.

Thanks for that reminder of a terrible season in Ryman Div 1 North - we had been "promoted" from 11th position in Div 3 the previous season! (The controversy which still rages on another's forum about the Ryman elevating lots of clubs before the "restructuring" began nationally).

I could put many match reports on here showing us in a much better light, but can't be asked.

you really should get out more!

Horace - Er you're not the first person to tell me that but now I have found the lovely Paula I might well do so. I wasn't aware that Oxford City were in the Ryman Division North that season, can you remember where they finished.

They finished 15th with 64 points from 46 games - this after a late flurry after flirting with the lower regions of the table! This was our worst Isthmian season out of 34 consecutive ones - see table (from our website archives) 2002/3 Ryman Div 1N table

Is this so called World beater Kevin Cooper likely to be playing for Hertford against Kentish Town on Tuesday night. I found this report from a Herts Senior Cup 3rd Round tie at St Albans in 2004/2005 that you might be interested in, Cooper is mentioned but seemed to have a quiet night:

On the back of a superbly struck Matt Hann free kick and a second half brace by leading scorer Lee Clarke, St Albans City closed in on their first Herts Senior Cup final appearance in five years on Tuesday night with a comfortable quarter final victory at Clarence Park over Ryman League Division Two leaders Hertford Town. St Albans gave a debut to 17-year old Carl Kavanagh who slotted in well alongside far more experienced players than he is accustomed to when playing for the Saints Reserves this season. City recalled Chris Zoricich following the end of his loan period at Boreham Wood, and brought Hann and Tom Beech back into the starting line up. After an even opening the Saints took the lead on ten minutes when Town defender Adrian Robinson fouled Chris Seeby some 20 yards out and to the left corner of the penalty area. Spotting ample space to keeper Lee Robinson’s right, Hann stepped in from the main stand side of the pitch to strike a perfect right-footed shot high inside the keeper’s near post. Beech almost added a second when he broke clear of the defence only to see his low shot ricochet off the diving Robinson and just over the bar. Later in the half Robinson made an excellent instinctive save as Beech shot on the turn but the well-built City striker was also guilty of squandering two clear openings as his goal drought continued. Although City generally controlled proceedings and went close prior to the interval through Zoricich, Hertford had two good chances to pull level only for Kevin Cooper to clip the first opening over the bar while the second saw Saints keeper Paul Bastock beat out a crisp drive from Phil Goss. Hertford also went close during the early stages of the second half with Zoricich blocking Curtis Johnson’s goal bound volley and Bastock saving a volley from Billy Wingrove while Goss just failed to turn in a low cross from Johnson that flummoxed both Bastock and Ben Martin. Hann was proving to be one of the most effective players on the pitch but City only really threatened to increase their lead when Clarke replaced Lee Charles midway through the half. Seeby, set up by Ben Walshe, forced Robinson into a good save low down before Clarke, just five minutes after coming on, took Beech’s touch in his path and fired low into the Hatfield Road goal via the inside of Robinson’s left-hand post on 70 minutes.

Walshe had a decent effort comfortably taken by Robinson before Clarke sent a measured shot into the crossbar with Beech’s follow up header easily saved. Moments later Beech, set up by Hann, shot tamely through to Robinson and Hertford threatened to punish that miss on 83 minutes when Lane headed home from a Liam Errington cross.

But any thoughts of a surprise where dismissed two minutes later when Beech headed down a Hann corner from the Saints right with Clarke neatly twisting and firing the loose ball in for his 20th goal of the season.

Unlikely you'll be rubbing shoulders with Pablo unless you're very short Rhodes!!

H had a pretty good game on Sat, just one shakey moment when he tried to take the ball past a forward when he was last man and got robbed but recovered well.

Encouraging display, I'd say main issue at the moment is the supply to the forwards. Coops and Redford getting frustrated.

Kevin Cooper - Hertford record - P 159 + 11 sub, 122 goals. Not counting friendlies! As I have said before Rhodes, look on our website to read about him.
