You were carried up the leagues to success by a rich backer which is the only reason you have a history. Grays have a far better history than you do anyway as yours only really starts when Jeff became involved

After what we've experienced recently, I would never wish any club to go bust myself. Grays aren't too disimilar to ourselves in many ways, so they will need to be careful, but I hope that nothing goes wrong for them.

We have had a better history then grays by a mile!!!!!

grays have got to be very careful if the guy that is putting all te money into them pulls out or goes bust then the same will happen to them that has happened to us.

If a major backer pulls out of any club they are in trouble, it dosen`t matter if it`s Canvey,Grays,Billericay or Chelsea.

 

We enjoyed it while the going was good and now we have to rebuild but to progress in football you need money and i don`t know of any club that produces enough of it through the turnstyles to allow them to compete with the best.

More than happy to contribute to that but if things go well then we will need another backer to take us back to Conference level, fan power is not enough these days!

The way it works is no more than 25% of your income should come from a single source, therefore if you lose a backer it is not the end of the world.

 

The problem is clubs get lazy when they have a single backer and relax their marketing and commercial side we must never let it happen!!

 

Once the new CIFC has established itself we need to be looking at a range of marketing products including accessing lottery money, through a variety of avenues and Thames Gateway funding to regenerate the area.

 

Thats how teams like Leyton Orient have become financial viable regardless of their football success.

 

These clubs now run "Football in the community" they get a shed load of money for providing football training in their communities and use these academies to develop their youth structures.

 

One good youngster comeing through the ranks and the club is financially sound.

 

Arsenal actually get paid to run academies, these are run at a profit, every now and then up pops a Rooney or Beckham and Bingo!!

I know next to nothing about Leyton Orient but whenever i read anything in the press about them it`s all about "the club Barry Hearne built". Would they survive without his money?

He put the initial money up, he is a shrewed business man, skilled at self promotion. Leyton Orient is a business venture and a succesful one at that.

 

There are about 10-12 related and linked companies, owning properties, community regeneration, sports development, consultancy etc etc. Some are "not for profit" allowing access to public funds, all do very well or Barry would drop them like a stone.

 

Do not get me wrong he loves the club, but he is no mug!! He even built flats on each corner of the ground turning them into luxury appartments, now he has a captive fan base.

hopefully one day Canvey will be a conference club again in the future & we hopefully we can do things right as where we went wrong like doing the things like football in the community like what orient do & etc would give as extra funds & as for ricays comment on backers he says that Jeff king was a major backer as well of the people like Micky woodward & etc if so how comes we wasnt in say the top 6 of the conference to be fair jeff king has served as well in the past & i think the real reason why jeff left was because not only the attendences was low but the main reason was because we was not performing on the pitch so he left & if we was performing we would still have a good attendence & there is defently potential at the club may i say as round the island there is no on to challange canvey & if we were doing well then people would have come & jeff king would have got what he wanted & the same will happen to chelmsford as well so by means he dont have near as much to Micky woodward

Why don't we have a thread pinned to the top entitled "money making ideas". There's a lot of people with ideas out there who maybe don't like talking up in meetings so let's give them an opportunity to put forward their idaes.
