Lexton Harrison

Recommended Posts

I can fill you in a bit more on a couple of the trialists Jim is using at the moment.

Lexton Harrison played 133 games for Edmonton Rovers on Sundays up until January 2005 when he decided to try his luck at Saturday football.

You can find out more here.

He played as a forward for us though. How has he been doing in defence so far ?

Is there a chance of Jim signing him ?

I hope so, as Lex is a good lad and I'd like to see him do well at this level.

I notice that Neil Hughes (no relation) is also playing in the Friendlies.

He has played for Enfield Rangers Old Boys in the Mercury Waltham Sunday League Premier Division for the last two or three seasons and for Broomfield's First XI in the Southern Amateur League on Saturdays. He has also played for the A.F.A. Rep Team and is a quality player and definitely good enough for this level from what I have seen of him on Sundays.

Good luck to ETFC this season.

I'm currently filming matches for various Conference clubs and ConferenceTV, but there's a current trend of some games being switched to Friday nights, so hopefully I'll be able to film a few ETFC games this season when I can (if needed of course).

Hope we have sorted Lextons international clearances with Jamaica FA?

I'm really pleased we are gaining good quality players from park teams. Hopefully it inspired other park players that they can move on up into Satruday football if they work at it.

We got Paul Campbell from a park team last year and he has done well.

The standard of Sunday League football has improved in the last two or three years, mainly because of nightclubs shutting at 6.00.a.m. instead of 2.00.a.m.

People no longer have enough time to sleep off their hangovers in time for a 10.30.a.m. kick-off, so it's weeded out all the beer bellies and cloggers and only those who take their football seriously play on a Sunday morning nowadays...or that's certainly the case in the Mercury Waltham League. I can't speak for the Edmonton Sunday League.

There are fewer clubs, but they are much better organised.

I find that more players drop into Sunday League football having initially played at Semi-Pro Saturday level than the other way round though.

A lot of Sunday League players are good enough to play on Saturdays but they are put off when they are told they can no longer play Sunday football as well.

I believe Jim operates that policy ?

He may do now but he certainly didn't at first as a number of players played Sunday football.

I remember Peter Ulatowski particularly after an recent article in The Lee Valley Mercury saying how wonderful he was for Hoddesdon Town FC. Peter was a great goalscorer but he played on Sunday and got a booked at that level when playing for us (on Saturdays) which then made him inelligible for a number of months. Unavailable just when we needed him. Great player sorely missed.

Carl Richards was spotted by Enfield, playing for a park team on the playing fields.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Peter Hinds. Carl was a South London lad who had already played for Dulwich.
