Things We should be aiming for this Season

Recommended Posts

Yes, where we finish this season will make a difference but aslong as finish outside the relegation places, I'll be a happy supporter.

Although our best positions individually last year was probably at the back, I felt last season we let in to many silly goals, from needless free kicks conceded and few unforced errors. We should be aiming for a much better solid unit at the back this year being tighter from corners and free kicks in particular. I also feel that we need to find someone from within the squad to play that holding role in the midfield, whether it be Stacy Long or Rob Quinn. We need them to stop attacks from the opposition and to create our own with short, but sharp passing. Daish needs to get this right from the off this season I feel.

Also, width is crucial. Slatter last year tended to tuck in at any opportunity which concised play a great deal, which didn't suit as, especially at home. I think now with Keeling we should have a better balance in Midfield, which should allow more time and space to play better football.

Finally MacDonald. If he stays fit we will score goals, no doubt about it. I think Ekoku will help create chances for him alot more than Luke Moore would.

So, for me, the key to this season is Defensive Solidity (Holding Midfield player).

Balance and width to the Midfield.

Macdonald & Ekoku patnership.

If Daish can achieve these, we could be in for a decent season indeed I feel.

How about Paul McCarthy sitting just in front of the "Smith's" as a Defensive Midfielder? Could it work - what do people think?

We all know McCarthy's got no pace but his experience is invaluable to the team.

Avoiding relegation and playing more entertaining football would suit me. However, with a full "full-time" side and a fit MacDonald play-offs aren't beyond us.

Compared to the end of season doom and gloom I've been pleasently surprised by some of the signings. We could just surprise a few teams.

Steady on - when we don't make the play-offs, we don't want supporters carping on here about how they 'expected' or were 'promised' a shot at promotion or other similarly fanciful notions.

McCarthy would be a good player for this position actually. Good heading ability, good distributer and can tackle to great affect.

Could be a candidate for this position in my view. But must be tried in one of the remaining two friendlies if they are going to do it.

I would settle for mid way position, a good cup run or two for the money, and pride of course.but mainly I would like to finish the season, with a settled core of players,so that the club has something sound to build on for the following season. Then maybe try to progress from there.

A generous sponsor would not go amiss either.

It's easy to say we need and want a good cup run. But how is it going to come about? We would need to be fired up and determined to win in every area for us to achieve that goal. Does Daish have that in his locker?

From a supporters point of view I want to see pride taking in effort and performance more than the result. Lose 6-0, but if our players have gave it everything and never gave up, we'd take some pride. This is what we need to be aiming for, pride in the shirt.

Be nice if we got a little tv coverage on sky to,would bring so well needed money in

Sky pay next to nothing for televising Conference games, an extra 50 people on the home gates will get you in more revenue than having a league match televised so we are back to needing an FA cup run again. Even then the big bucks don't kick in until the 3rd round.

A home draw would be a good start and not losing to anyone from a lower league would help too.
