Can anyone help?

There's been anongoing situation at my mother-in-law's house which boiled over tonight. Cutting a long story short, various yourths on her road have been causing damage to the vehivles parked on her drive and using her front garden as a goal on and off for a while, but especially the last few weeks. I confronted one of the kids a week or so ago and he generally treated me with contempt, threatened to kill me and so on. Eventually he went away though.

Tonight, a group of kids were sitting on the vehicles and they refused to move so the Police were called. I wasn't there so I don't have all the details a syet. basically, the Police advised my mother-in-law to move the vehicles and put up a net in her garden as if the kids hurt themselves she is responsible.

I am previously contacted Enfield anti-social behaviour unit, but that's still in the early stages. We have all the Police peoples' names and numbers and a CAD number. I am also going to contact her local councillors. Does anyone else have any ideas what else I can do?

Sounds like a terrible situation to be in.I really sympathise. To go through any offical channels will be labourious.Do you have the luxury to call on the services of some 'hardmen' friends (or friends of friends) to scare them off? It may cost you a hundred or two in seeing them alright for a 'drink',but it would be worth it.Alternatively, how about buying a big pack of stinkbombs and chucking one on your driveway everytime they hang around outside.

Well in the case of juveniles the parents are responsible for their behaviour.

Install a good quality camera and get the evidence for the police who will have to act on the information gathered. See if you can borrow the equipment from the police! On gathering the information ask the police for compensation to repair the damage caused.

Get one of those "super soakers" water guns, fill it with urine & give them a good soaking or as lovely stuff said get some friends of friends to do it, try & avoid any physical confrontation as if they are minors it will end up costing you more than cash.

My brother and sister in law had a situation recently with youngsters causing a load of noise and drinking outside their house. They contacted the local MP who got the police involved and the problem was solved.

Rather than resort to violence as has been suggested if you know who the youngsters are write to their parents a polite letter stating that they will be held responsible for any damage suffered as a result of the behaviour of their children and, if there is further damage, sue them using the online court service.

I had an interesting conversation with Mick Woodward (Chairman of Grays Athletic) a few years ago when he first took over at Barkingside. You may, or may not, know that there is a young offenders institute more or less next door to Barkingside's ground and the kids had been causing grief to the football club for years.

I asked Mick what he had done to change this. Apparently, he didn't go to the kids but went straight to the warden and told him that he would be considered responsible for any damage caused by any of the kids there. There was never any trouble after that.

The moral is that there is no point in trying to reason with the yobs. You need to take the matter up with a responsible adult - be it a parent, the police or, in this case, the warden.

What ever happened to the good old days when a copper gave yobs a spank round the ear and sent them on their way with a kick up the kyber. And then we have people like our old mate steph "WRITE TO THEIR PARENTS" A bit difficult when the parents are normally as bad as the yobs they produced and are quite often brain dead morons. Try and live in the real world steph.

If they have been damaging vehicles (scratching/denting etc) then that is criminal damage. You can make a complaint upon which the police will have to act. However you will need to be able to identify the individual who did the damage otherwise the complaint won't get very far. You either have to see them committing the act or better still catch it all on film.
It seems as if you were on the receiving end of a Public Order offence a week or so ago when threatened/insulted. Again, if you were to make a complaint the police would have to at the very least investigate. Ideally you would have a witness or other evidence to support any complaint to police, but this isn't necessary. If anything of this kind happens again be sure to make an immediate complaint to police. A day spent waiting in a youth court waiting room is perhaps more of a deterrent than the eventual sentence!

The ASBU team went round this morning and are taking the situation very seriously. They've said the advice originally given by the Police was aload of cods and are chasing that up through the Met as well.

No sign of any of the kids today, apparently.

Thanks for all your suggestions, by the way.
