good to see the club reacting to the negative press thats been going around, im quite impressed by the statement.

eddie knows the business well and wouldnt take the decision to sign jarvis lightly. obviously what has gone before will take a while to heal but im sticking fully behind the club, hopefully others will too.

I guess that makes it official then - he will be joining us. I think we as supporters have been right to show our feelings on this matter and I think it a shame that it has taken a public berating to get the club to respond but so be it.

If he is a Slough player now and he intends to win over public support I propose that we let him get on with it. I'm not going to boo a Slough Town player though equally I'm not going to be cheering when his name is read out on the teamsheet.

Eddie has had a good relationship with the supporters during his managerial reign. I really don't want the signing of Jarvis to sour that relationship but having heard our grievances it appears Eddie still believes Jarvis will be an asset to our playing squad. I will remain sceptical until proven otherwise.

I hope a personal apology will be made to Emma as one in a club statement really isn't enough. Any perceived benefits of Jarvis signing will be heavily outweighed by losing two dedicated and hardworking supporters in the form of Gary and Emma.

So onto Saturday. Lets see who we have in our squad and get an idea of personnel for next season. If Jarvis plays so be it. There will be 10 other players to cheer on, plus I intend on give Mets a good reception if he turns out for Maidenhead.

Somewhat a timely statement considering the papers are out tomorrow and this is obviously going to be the main headline for them.

To be honest the signing of Jarvis from my view is that if he wants to play for us and give his all then thats fine for me as long as he keeps his cool on the pitch, saying this there is one part of that statement I would like to question.

Quote:
In a statement from Jamie this afternoon, he told me how much he is looking forward to playing back at Slough. He regrets an incident three years ago with Gary & Emma and he certainly publically apologises for any bad feelings still remembered.

Has he publically apologised to Gary and Emma because I dont see that as a public apology? And also who is this statement actually from Roy or Bernard?

My main problem with the whole issue was not the fact that Jarvis had a bad disciplinary record, but the fact that two of our most hard-working supporters had been upset by his actions, and might be compelled to stay away from watching their team play.

Now that Jarvis has signed, I would like to think that he will keep his head down and work really hard for the team that he so badly wanted to join. We all know his strengths and weaknesses, and he's got to convince a lot of people and the only way to do this is to play well and contribute significantly to the team's success.

I also don't think the apology in the statement is sufficient, and it remains to be seen whether Jarvis will apologise face-to-face, and whether Emma will accept this. I'd hate to think that two people who give so much to the club would stop attending matches - though I could understand it - and I hope a satisfactory conclusion can be reached, for the good of everyone involved.

Cheers Gary. I hope that he follows that up.

I also think that there is some other issues to come out of this statement.

1)Eddie is in a very difficult position where he has to build a team regardless of who the players are that he signs and what the fans think about them. This should be respected.

2)This saga may have driven the close relationship between the fans and the players apart, especially as the statement says the current players have been upset with what has happened.

3)Hopefully the value of the website has been realised and those that run the club will use it more often - they are sure willing to use it when something damaging to the club is about to be released via the papers (which this incident will surely be). It doesnt take much for a small statemnet to be made once a week, look at Andy Lynne at Oxford City who makes regular statements.

I am glad that the club have finally spoken up on the matter, I will accept Jarvis's apology if it is face to face and sincere.

With regards to supporting slough, I can't really give up on them, however I am not promising that I will be there 100%, I will take each game as it comes.

Well I have said my piece on this prior to this statement and suffice to say I am not particularly impressed. It would take some pretty outstanding performances over a very long period and a massive change in the temperament shown in our previous encounters for Jamie to win me over.

Some other things I would say but wouldn't want to force the club into issuing a statement in response and don't want to sour the relationship with the squad and management any further than it already is.

Dearest Emma,If supporting Slough is in your blood, then you'll be there whatever happens.Having moved away from the area many years ago, I still travel a 100 miles to the home games, and no single player ever influenced my response.Don't forget we supporters are far more important than any players, players come and go, we remain forever.

Wasn't it Bob Dylan who said "Fools only try to bring you down to their level".

So go, and enjoy the struggle.

What exactly has this Jarvis done to cause this reaction out of interest? is it anything we can abuse him for when we play you <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> lol

I'd just like to comment in on the statement that the club have made and the entire situation this has caused. My statement in not wishing to come any more to matches was made, in fair cause, at the disappointment the club had taken to sign a player with which we'd had such a bad history with, particularly with a very personal incident involving my wife.

As much as it may have appeared that way, it was never my intention to cause an issue for Eddie or Roy, or to try and belittle their decisions in which players they decide to bring and attract to the club, as they have proven themselves to be very good at what they do in the past four seasons. As a result, I apologise sincerely to Eddie and Roy for putting them in a very difficult situation, although I hope they will both fully appreciate why the original statement came about.

Whilst I still have some major reservations about a lot of things with the club, if Emma is happy with the apology from Jarvis, which I have no doubt will be forthcoming, sincere and face to face, then we'll move on and try and put this behind us and get on with supporting the team.

From what I've read and heard about Jamie, he is a true club man for whichever club he has played for and if Eddie and Roy judge his character to be of benefit for the club and whilst he conducts himself in a proper manner on the pitch, I'm prepared to let him get his head down and see if he can help the team get some positive results.

As King Tut says above, I would never boo a player in a Slough Town shirt. I fully believe in getting behind the team as a whole, particularly vocally, and trying to lift the players onto victory.

Let's get the season underway and get behind the team.

One way he can apologise is to give everything he's got for the shirt, from what Ive seen he will do that, & we certainly need someone like that if Wilko isn't in the team.

I am sorry to hear that SR1. I think the decision is a poor one. But as a comparison when Brownie signed and played Hodgey to break up the Winston/Boot partnership I thought he had got that wrong as well. Hodgey initially could not do anything right but subsequently proved us all wrong. Whilst I would not put Jarvis in that sort of category - Gary and Emma are the only people I am aware of who have been personally offended and upset by him. That incident was three years ago and if Gary and Emma are prepared to give it a go then I certainly will be and I would hope most others will. I think it would be a disaster for the club if loyal supporters gave up over signings. I hope you reconsider.
