Quiet In Here Tonight

Recommended Posts

Where is everyone tonight, is it the heat and I'm the only saddo on the computer, well and Paula! I hope the novelty of the SSML Forum isn't wearing thin already and it will go the same way as the Ryman League one with posts every few months. Anyway lets try and make the SSML Forum the best in the business and a credit to Ian and the league, it certainly has the potential as I know hundreds of anoraks at Club's in the three divisions who aren't aware of the Forum as yet and will be on here 24/7 once they find out about it.

Think most people post during the day while at work - it beats the boredom.

You'll also find that things will liven up once the season starts and people have something constructive to talk about.

Nice chatting to you anyway Rhodes

Take Care

Paula - Yes I think we're the only two saddo's in here tonight although no doubt Potters Bar Town will be in soon enlightening us on his game with Cheshunt today. It'll take me a couple of hours to get down there if you fancy it although I'm not really in the mood for Clubbing, you could always get the scrabble board out.

Paula - Hi love, it's quiet again isn't it, shall I pop round with the scrabble board or chess set.

It's surprisingly quiet in here tonight despite it being the end of a long exhausting campaign and surely much to discuss such as Haringey Borough's sad demise (where's 3praise), Cockfosters nipping in at the eleventh hour to get runners up spot due to Ampthill Town's 4-1 home defeat and Hoddesdon Town coming up on the rails to claim fifth spot.

Well as I said in my text earlier I would have been more than happy to cheer you up, I could have easily diverted to Benfleet from where I was and you could have picked me up at the station.

Not necessarily, I gather Hoddesdon fought tooth and nail at Winslow United as if their lives depended on it and just scraped a 2-1 win, a draw would have seen us, far more deservedly, finish in fifth place.

Sorry Rhodes, down the pub on the hit and miss toasting the good folks of Chalk Lane and their friends from Brimsdown.

Why "far more deservedly"? The League is played over a whole season and, over the whole season, Hoddesdon earned more points than Kentish Town. Had it not been for Kentish Town's fluke start to the season, it wouldn't even have been close!

It was common knowledge around all the SSML bazaars that we were the Brazil '70 of division 1 early on in the campaign, Brache Sparta and Bedford Valerio United will vouch for that. As the season progressed we tweeked our style slightly to a more 'total football' of the two Dutch sides from 1974 and 1978, Hoddesdon themselves felt that backlash on 23 December. Had it not been for the Cockfosters fiasco a week later and losing Lee Scott in January then we would have matched Brimsdown all the way to the line yesterday.

How much longer is December 30th, 2006 likely to haunt you? I'm pretty sure Brimsdown must also have had sleepless nights, haunted by the fear that KTFC would close that 28 point gap. Dream on.....
