To be fair Joe Dolan was awful for us but it seems he has found himself a manager who believes in him.. See below

Dolan and Bunce were costly signings last year!

DOLAN COUP FOR STOKE BOSS VINES

By Sam Elliott - Posted: Tue Jul 18, 2006 10:42 am

DEFENDER Joe Dolan has completed his switch to Conference South side Basingstoke Town.

Manager Francis Vines has swooped for the 26-year-old after a week-long battle for his signature.

Dolan – a former Northern Ireland Under-21 international – has signed a one-year contract following his departure from troubled Canvey Island.

Vines said: "I worked with Joe at Crawley and was impressed by his ability and enthusiasm.

"As well as being a good player he is an excellent character to have around the dressing room and adds another experienced head to our squad."

Don't think that Joe was ever really fully fit while he was with us but given the chance to play regularly, I think he would have been top class at Conference level, given his pedigree with Millwall, Leyton Orient etc. Sad that it just never worked out for him at Canvey.

He was a really nice guy and I wish him all the luck in the world with Basingstoke and in his future career.

Saw Joe play in a reserve game just after he signed and it was an education to watch how he marshalled the defence and virtually talked Mitchell Lowes through the match. I thought then that this guy was going to be a real asset and really liked the look of him, sadly it was not to be however and I really hope he puts his career back on track now at Basingstoke.

To be honest he never really got the chance. Can't have played more than 5 games for the first team.

I think the previous injuries he had affected his form.
