Mr J Jarvis

Well I was there, and I certainly didn't provoke the attack, I was quite happily stood amongst the Hampton fans, waiting to get into the bar, as Jarvis was entering the dressing room, he came out with language I can't even repeat.

Why is his reputations on and off the pitch so different?

Last season, playing in a total of 36 games he only picked up 4 yellow and 2 red cards.

For somone with what was a bad rep on the pitch I think he has calmed down a hell of a lot.

Yes things get said at the heat of the moment, he is a very pasionate footballer and I am sure that a lot of the people who don't want Jarvo at Slough have all said things that they later wish they hadn't.

I am not saying that Emma is wrong to feel hacked off by what was said at the time, I wouldn't be best pleased if my wife was spoken to like that.

Basically, I will back up the comments about his off the pitch temperament. He is a nice guy off the pitch and id a lot to try and get players involved more off the pitch.

Aside from the verbal insult issue which has been much-talked about, I'd just like to know what exactly the signing of Jarvis would bring to us on the pitch.

He must be getting on a bit now, and was he really even playing that well (as skipper) in a poor Windsor team which was relegated last season? We all know about his 'passion', but does he still have what it takes to nullify the threat of opposition attacks in a very strong league this season? Add that to the fact, as we all know, that his temperament is suspect and his disciplinary record is quite poor.

He might well have been a half-decent signing for us a few years back as he's a big, no-nonsense centre-half, but right now, I don't really see the benefits of signing him in any shape or form, even if he is dirt-cheap. There are plenty better centre-halves out there.

A lot of people would need a lot of convincing if Jarvis was to sign IMO.

I like the fact that Mal thinks that two red cards in a season is "good" in disciplinary terms. That is an appalling record - some players never get sent off.

Is that not the same Mal who told us that Jarvis was in fact the victim, shortly before he was given a 15 match ban.

He could be Mother Theresa off the pitch for all I care. It is his actions on the pitch that I am concerned about and rightly so.

No, I never said that getting sent off twice in a aseason was a good thing.

What I said was that considering his reputation and prvious record the fact that he only got 4 yellow and 2 red cards proved that he had calmed down on the pitch,

And at least 1 of those sending off's was abit harsh! His reputation is far worse than he really is. Don't know if he'd suit slough but seeing as they are becoming Windsor and Eton Old Boys perhaps he will!

Your missing the point. it isnt about one incident .... the mans a complete lose cannon and causes trouble on and off the field at every club he's been to. He's old enough to have known better.

I hope we get Drake personally.

I feel so sorry for Eddie, i think a lot of his major players have driven the knife in, and IF this Jarvis thing is happening im sure it due to a lack of options. I know a lot of people who have virtually ALL said hes a nice guy off pitch etc etc

But surely if your part time job is a footballer you should be a sensible guy on the pitch!!

Lovegrove is a far better player and option IMHO.

Afraid i'm far from convinced by Lovegrove as well. Just to add another thing to the picture how slow is the back three going to be?

Steve Daly's never been fast and although great in the air he needs someone to do his running and Jarvis is slow as well from what I remember. From what i've seen of Leach, (who I think will be a great signing for us) he's not too quick either.

Looking at your line up last night Woody, one player whose absence stood out to me is Drake. Any news about him?

I've heard he could be starting in goal for us on saturday.

Now, Drake would be a good signing for us. Shown himself to be a very good keeper in the games I've seen him, and was a good laugh during the game last season. Oh, and he scores goals as well, I believe. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
