Is there a league cup in the Spartan league?

Recommended Posts

Any cup comps in the SSML? at least we dont have that AMT to play in now, pointless trophy that was.

I would think there is a league cup with all three divs in the SSML taking part.

At least we should have a lot more midweek games with the added number of teams to play this season.

There are two cup competitions. Each division has its own divisional cup then there is a league cup with teams from all three divisions competing in what is an openly drawn competition. Ruislip Manor are the holders of that having deservedly beaten Hillingdon Borough 2-1 in the final at Hanwell on Mayday Monday. In addition there is the SSML Floodlit Cup which is an optional midweek tournament which is also open to non SSML league clubs, I think Potters Bar won that & Hillingdon Borough also lost in the final of that. Infact the Borough didn't have the greatest end to what was a magnificnet season for them as they lost the league on goal difference and three cup finals in ten days!

Lato - I'm impressed by your knowledge, three SSML Cup competitions is a little over the top in addition to the FA Cup, FA Vase and all the regional Cups but I suppose it gives teams more chance of winning silverware. As you say Hillingdon had a nightmare end to the season but at least made a few quid from their Vase exploits, they also did well to finish level on points to Oxford City who were obviously ducks out of water in their one season in the SSML.

According to the Langford site the league cups have been drawn as they have Colney Heath in the Prem Div Cup and New Bradwell St Peter in Challenge Trophy (league cup). But they've only listed their games.

Can someone post the draws on here as soon as possible or whoever gets hold of them first, the first months fixtures should also be out in the next few days with the start of the season just a month away. It will be interesting to see hw Colney Heath do this sesson, they are a bit of an unknown quantity but teams promoted to the Premier very rarely, if at all, go straight back down, Sunderland style. Langford, Oxhey Jets and Biggleswade Utd are all well established now.

What's going on, surely someone knows the league cup draws by now as they were made after the AGM on 17 June. I'll ring the league tomorrow (today) and post them on here by lunchtime if nobody else has done it by then. I'll also ask when the first set of fixtures are out, it can't be long now.

Don't be silly. Surely you know how the SSML works by now? They'll give you the information when they're ready, not when you want it.

A couple of seasons ago, we only got our first league fixture 10 days before it was due to take place.

Sounds familiar Kev...I know one year we found out we were playing you (potters bar) first game by looking at your website

Hi Kevin, well I have to admit that you're right however I did manage to get our game out of them today and Kentish Town are at home to Biggleswade United in the Challenge Trophy in week commencing Monday 11 September, I suppose that's an achievement going by what you say. I think the SSML hierarchy are just a little over cautious in their approach that's all, they have a lot of experience afterall and have their Club's best interests at heart even if it might be a little frustrating to get fixtures at short notice and only in monthly blocks. Will you be attending a game tomorrow Kev, who's Potters Bar got.

Chance to say hello to fellow postee Mr O'Dell then Cliff.

Don't suppose by any miracle you know the rest of the draw. it would be nice to know who we are playing

I think the thing that grates is that the info is there and if you ask for it you can get it but they won't publish it until like you said Kev they are ready.

Lato, yes spot on but they have our best intentions at heart, they are just a bit long in the tooth but know what they're doing. I assume Kevin is Mr O'Dell, you seem well aquainted, he always used to come down to our Under 18's games at Haringey in midweek when I was still down there, the cup of tea was in his hand before he crossed the threshold and he soon got stuck into the deluxe buscuits, Haringey does pride itself on its hospitality hence why we get all the league officials regularly coming down. Your good friends Hillingdon also really push the boat out on the hospitality front, it was virtually cordon bleu down there at the interval and after games.

Yeah Hillingdon did push the boat out. To be honest most teams are high on hospitality front. Mind you although I hated the journeys I did enjoy the half time hospitality at some of the Eastern Counties grounds - Gorleston, Leiston, Tiptree, Harwich and Sudbury all top drawer

Lato - Yes getting a bit confused, Kevin's the guy from Potters Bar, tall chap about 6 ft 2", who's Mr O'Dell then. Did I mention that Kentish Town are trying to negotiate a friendly at Grosvenor Vale for 3 August, hope we can get it on. If so I would start soaking your right hand in concrete straight away as Greg will be attending, tell Manorborn to do the same. Did you know Julian Hudson used to be Kentish Town's manager as well as Haringey's, he's been around.
