I spy Chelmsford v Southend

Chelmsford lost 1-0 to a strong Southend team today although Southend changed most of their team in the second half.

From the Chelmsford forum

Quote:

McKinney - Looked a little shaky at stages fumbling a few easy balls but coped well with most of the things thrown at him 6/10

Smith - Looked a lot better alongside two class centre backs 7/10

Bimson - Was particularly impressed with his performance. Looked strong and a clever full back. 8/10

Chenery - STraight away you can tell he has played at a high level. Coped with Eastwood and Ricketts quite well and looks like an excellent captain. He marshalled he troops well. 8/10

Ward - Similar to Chenery. These two will be incredibly difficult to break down next season. 8/10

Conroy - Worked well with Minton in the middle of midfield. Energetic young player whose distribution was very good. 8/10

Noto - Was a little disappointed with this performance although he definately looks like he has potential. He execution at set-pieces was disappointing and didn't really seem to do much on the ball. I'm sure this will change in time 6/10

Minton - STAR MAN - Looked a class apart, really dictated proceedings for City going forward. Rarely gave the ball away and wasn't scared to put his foot in. A valuable asset for City and will do extremely well in the Ryman next season. 9/10

Battersby - Looks like a bit of a bruiser up front which is what we lacked last season. Was quite impressed with his energy levels and some good hold up play. WIll ruffle the feathers of a few centre halfs next season. 7/10

Hallett - Came off after 5 minutes with what looked like a serious injury, looked sharp while he was on. Injury is reputedly a ankle ligament injury (although Jason did tell me this), hope he recovers soon

Carminiti - Didn't really see much of him, was overshadowed by the performance of Byrne who replaced him. 6/10

Subs: Hopkins - Has superb energy levels and ran his socks off in the searing heat. Is improving all the time and will be valuable when he is available 7/10

Byrne - Looked really dangerous at times and has very good control of the ball. Full of pace and life made the right backs game very difficult. Certainly should be in the starting line up 8/10

Holmes - Didn't see much of the ball when he came on, but when he did looked sharp and caused the defenders problems 7/10

They werent so happy about some of them last season June. They have new players in,some with extra class than previous. We too have that same privelege & therefore as they are,we have shown our respect for these new players therefore ALL the team will ALL get good vibes in the same way that Chelmsford are giving out at present.... Even the SOME of us who were critical last season are knuckling down & accepting & giving credit this season. We wanted classier players & thats what we got so there is no reason, at this stage to do other than give praise in the same way as our Chelmsford counterparts are doing.

Things will be different I'm sure as the season goes along unless the team is winning everything in sight & I doubt that will happen with any team.

Great expectations may force comments to the negative by both clubs supporters should those expectations not seem to be coming to fruition.

As it is now both clubs are praising in the same way that the season of last year had both clubs criticising players at certain times in the footballing calendar.Theres no difference between our clubs either now or before in this sense or any other club come to think of it.

Hopefully our players will play in a similar way to Chelmsfords, in the matches running up to the actual league games & even into the season too. Maybe comments on our players by our supporters will be similar to that very good post today, praising the players efforts.Theres really no reason whatsoever,at this stage to do other than to encourage and be thankful if the team are putting the work in & generally giving it a go.

Well said Cookie. I'm all for giving praise where it's deserved and I've been very pleased since Trotty has taken over. I'll criticise if I think someone is just milking the club for money and not putting the performances in though. It's only right that the players should be kept on their toes.
