Jefferson Louis was recently on trial with Exeter so presumably they haven't taken him on. He only played a handfull of games for us before his previous loan was terminated. The general consensus is that he starts strongly virtually everywhere he plays, but then trails off. He can certainly score goals, but how consistently that is the issue!

Paul Egan was Folkestone's keeper - Holloway not yet match fit and Mott on holiday.

Louis was poor, Debolla probably worth another look although there seemed no end product.

The Daniel Brown isn't Crawleys Danny Brown at all - it was a guy from Wycombe who looked good enough to play a few more games. Only he and George Purcell (youngster released by Gills but former Gravesend youth player) looked worthy of any sort of deal.

Was one of those the Right Back Jimmy?
I heard the Notts County lad (Stacy Long?) looked like he could play a bit.

The right back was Hawkins - Brown played centre half with Ross - he's really tall but can pass the ball out of defence.

Purcell played wide left but looks to be more of a forward - sort of Rooneyesque stature.

Long did actually look OK but by that time too many changes were being made at once and nooone really had the chance to make an impact.

Whilst I agree that the result from this particular match was of no real importance, what is crucial is that LD must formalate his best 16 - 18 players (which still allows him to sign 4/5 additional palyers if/when they become available all within the next 2 or 3 friendlies.

This will allow them to familiarise with each other and develop some proper team play in the final couple of matches before the serious league business starts.

No doubt I will be slagged off for having such negative thoughts already, but my hopes and expectations of pre season games are that 2/3 are for trialling, the remainder are to get the first team fit, bonded and playing to a pattern they are familiar with.

League matches are no place for getting used to each other.

Don't see it as negative at all. Quite agree with you on this one. Given how many players we're trying out & the extent of the changes to the squad, it's a pity we couldn't have had a couple of weeks more of practice matches for the management to look at them before the season starts.

Disastrous starts take a long time to recover from. I'm sure we all remember our 2nd season in the Conference. Not that I'm anticipating a start like that this season. We'd lost our best players, let forwards walk away without finding replacements, the guys we had on trial then were self evidently not Conference standard & our shortcomings up front were finally rescued, after several disastrous weeks, by plucking Rob Haworth from Hendon reserves.

Although there's still obvious positions to fill & cover, especially at full back & in midfield, we've definitely been infinitely more unprepared in the past.

Thats exactly what he did isn't it.

Saturdays team wasn't all the new signings it was used to assess the trialists as will the teams for Dover and Eastbourne I should think and after the trialists have been whittled down, probably by about the MK Dons match the management should pretty much know who will form this seasons squad,
