Serie A , 3 relegated

Italian football champions Juventus have been relegated to Serie B, along with Lazio and Fiorentina, over a match-fixing scandal.

AC Milan will remain in Serie A but was given a 15-point penalty from the start of next season.

The Italian Football Federation punished them for conspiring to rig matches in the top division during the 2004/05 season.

Serie A champions Juventus were also deducted 30 points from start of next season and stripped of their last two Serie A titles.

Fiorentina was deducted 12 points and Lazio lost seven.

All four teams will not play in European tournaments next season.

The decision came five days after Italy won its fourth World Cup title defeating France in the final in Berlin.

Thirteen of the 23-man Italian squad that won Sunday's cup final belong to the four teams hit by the penalties.

The rulings are bound to spark a massive sell-off of some of the world's finest players.

Juventus was at the centre of the scandal, which erupted in May, and hung over Italian players throughout the World Cup.

Phone taps revealed the club's former general manager Luciano Moggi had discussed refereeing appointments with federation officials.

All those found guilty can appeal, but the appeals process must be completed by July 25 - the deadline set by UEFA for the FIGC to submit the list of teams for next season's Champions League and UEFA Cup competitions.

I just trust that the clubs either do NOT appeal or if they do they lose it.

Too often the big clubs ride roughshot over rules and get away with it.

Prime example is when Spurs CHEATED in 1994 with rule breaking and when found GUILTY told the FA they would take the matter to the courts. The FA crumbled instead of telling Spurs to abide by the rules and Spurs got away with CHEATING.

It is about time that the countries FA showed who is in charge of football and it is not just a few clubs.

Football is for EVERYONE

match-fixing scandal.

I do not think that match-fixing is the correct term. The only case of real match fixing is the Gigi Buffon business that is yet to start.

Also i heard a rumour that AC Milan only got off as they chose the judge for the case!

Sorry FF but that quote was from "SKY NEWS" & not from me personall though I agree it was me who posted it.I should have mentioned that, sorry. Besides thats EXACTLY what it was anyway.

Had it been about one incident do you really believe all these clubs involved would have been penalised? I think not somehow!

But is it match-fixing?

match-fixing

noun {U}

dishonest activity to make sure that one team wins a particular sports match.

Juventus where getting opposition players suspended BUT this did NOT "make sure that one team wins a particular sports match."
