Lessons to be learnt

Shame AFF wasn't there last night, he would have had a field day!

If we're going to have attendances in excess of last night's (I reckon about 800 there) my observations were as follows:

1) We need 2 turnstiles open at BOTH ends. The queue at the main gate was ludicrous. If the game hadn't been delayed there would have been some very angry punters.

2) Get the tunstile between the bar and the ground operational asap. The lad on the gate can't cope on his own with hordes of fans coming out of the bar and into the ground with or without tickets.

3) Get a bar manager installed; 2 girls on their own aren't enough, there needs to be 4 people behind the bar, one of which can change barrels etc.

Other than that it went very smoothly!

P.S. I won't mention the [****!!****]-up with the officials.

No, I wasn't there last night, Rob. A frantic afternoon and early evening in the office. I'm looking forward to the BIGGIE - Mighty North Greenford United, however.

I don't know about a "field day", either Rob. I have been known to put on a stewards' top thingy when we were short of a full complement on occasions, but one of the very many things that I don't know how to do is change beer barrels. That said, I wouldn't have thought that it was an overly complex matter.

I'm sure that your helpful advice will be taken on board by the newly appointed Matchday Co-ordinator's husband.

Isn't Don the Burgerman the new Bar Manager [effectively]?

Hi Rob

Long time since I posted, hope I've remembered what to do...!

Thanks for the suggestions, in turn:

1) We will certainly be having 2 operators on each turnstile for the Conference games this season. Hopefully we'll kick this off next Tuesday for the Barnet game. Segregated games will also see the currently unused gate at the Hatfield Road End in operation. The plan is to also have the side gate at the Clarence Park gate for complimentary tickets and passes so they don't have to queue, which will obviously take numbers off the main queue as well.

2) The new turnstile between the bar and ground will also be in operation to hopefully increase the flow out of the bar into the ground. I think this would be best as a ticket only turnstile, so people who haven't brought one will have to go round to York Road, aloowing those who have a quicker passage in.

Obviously both of these additional operations require extra bodies to be gatemen and stewards. If anyone wishes to volunteer, even if it is on an ad-hoc basis as and when you can, please PM me for a chat. If we can't get numbers this way, then we will be buying stewarding in as the numbers required have increased given both our promotion and likely increase in crowds.

3) I won't pass comment on the bar. Yet.

Cheers

Brew
